Description: Days after Google’s reorganization into a company called Alphabet Inc, the Internet giant has bought the entire alphabet online. Alphabet now owns the unabridged abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.com, a domain that was created in 1999, according to domain-registration directory Whois. Alphabet confirmed the domain purchase. When Google made its Alphabet announcement in August, it unveiled a website at abc.xyz. But the search giant didn’t stop at six letters. “We realized we missed a few letters in abc.xyz, so we’re just being thorough,” an Alphabet spokesman said. Alphabet declined to say how it plans to use the domain name. Wednesday evening, the page did not load. Companies often buy related domains for many reasons. For convenience, in case people misspell Google when they’re trying to reach the search engine, Alphabet owns Googl.com and Gogle.com and forwards them to Google.com. (Just try spelling its new domain without any typos.) The search giant also owns some domains for defensive purposes to prevent opposition groups from using them. Alphabet owns GoogleSucks.com, for example, and forwards it to Google.com. There are still several alphabet-related domains that Alphabet doesn’t own. Walt Disney Co.DIS +0.18% ABC network owns abc.com, and BMW AGBMW.XE +0.54% has alphabet.com.
