The color patterns of the
dart frog and its lack of color on the ventral surface allows the frogs to escape from the predators. Usually, the underside of the frog is a lighter color than the top side for the reason that if the frog is hanging on top of the water and a predator searching for the frog, the suns glare makes the frog difficult to spot. There are shady marks on the bottom and as a result it doesn't expose the silhouette for the frog. Some of the frog’s upper side is darker since when swimming at the underneath of a dark pond, it coordinates with the bottom.
