Description: People around the world are being deceived.
With coronavirus hysteria continuing to create tension among Americans, investigative reporter Ben Swann decided to look into whether or not medical masks are actually helping to “slow the spread” of COVID-19. The mask debate is constantly being discussed on social media and in the real world, it’s even provoking physical confrontations. When personal preferences are put aside, what does the science actually say? According to Swann, “Not only do medical masks not prevent the spread of virus, but a 1995 study proves that wearing a cloth mask can put you at greater risk for infection.” Learn more in the following investigative report:

Thousands of people, packed close together and not wearing face masks, protested in Berlin on Saturday against official measures intended to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Police said they would file charges against the organizer of the gathering as demonstrators had not followed hygiene rules such as maintaining social distancing or wearing a mask covering nose and mouth. Some 17,000 people took part in the demonstration at its peak, according to police. The gathering was organized with the title "The end of the pandemic — day of freedom." Some demonstrators chanted "the biggest conspiracy theory is the pandemic," according to German media reports. A Stuttgart-based organization called Querdenken 711 — which roughly translates as "thinking outside the box 711" — organized the rally. The interior minister for the city of Berlin, Andreas Geisel, said on Friday that neo-Nazi organizations had also called for people to participate in the march. German media outlets noted that "Day of Freedom" was also the name of a Nazi propaganda film documenting the party's 1935 party congress in Nuremberg. One banner at the march called for politicians such as German Health Minister Jens Spahn, Bavaria's state premier Markus Söder, Chancellor Angela Merkel and leading Christian Drosten to be "locked away." Protesters also "aggressively asked" journalists to remove their masks by protestors, newspaper Der Tagesspiegel reported. A video by Querdenken 711 before the march said the group was peaceful and called on attendees to be polite to journalists. Sawsan Chebli, a senior official in the Berlin city government, called the protest "a disaster."

"I just came from abroad and see these pictures. Many look to Germany, and admire us for how we have dealt with corona. Such pictures are a disaster. They destroy everything. They endanger human lives and destroy livelihoods. They scare me," she tweeted.

Europeans Are Waking Up to Government Covid Tyranny. Why Are We Still Asleep?

Description: Tens of thousands of Germans marched through Berlin on Saturday, proclaiming a “Day of Freedom” and demanding an end to government-mandated face masks and “social distancing.” The UK and Netherlands also saw large protests against their governments’ tyrannical actions in response to the coronavirus outbreak. According to media accounts, the Berlin protesters held signs reading “We are being forced to wear a muzzle,” “Natural defense instead of vaccination,” and “We are making noise because you are stealing our freedom!” Good for them!

tag-freiheit.jpg

The New York Times Tweeted that the masses of Berlin demonstrators were all “Nazis” and “conspiracy theorists.” Does the “paper of record” really want us to believe there were perhaps a million Nazis active in the streets of Berlin? Wouldn’t that be alarming? The fact is, Europeans are realizing that their government-mandated lockdowns did little or nothing to protect them from the virus, while causing economic catastrophe and untold human suffering. They likely looked around and noticed that Sweden, which never locked down its economy, rejected face masks, and kept its restaurants and other places of business open, did not fare any worse than the countries that have been turned into open air prisons for much of the year. In fact, Sweden had a lower death rate from the virus than strict lockdown states like the UK and France. No wonder people are starting to get angry. Unfortunately, while the Europeans are waking up, Americans are still asleep as our freedoms continue to be trampled. While Europeans demand an end to government tyranny, here we see states with minuscule new deaths returning to lockdown. It is as if all the wannabe tyrants from mayors to governors are finally realizing their secret dreams of ruling by decree. Their dreams are our nightmares! New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy put citizens “on notice” that he will lock the state back down if people dare to go outside without a face mask or even to have guests inside their own homes! What kind of politician puts his own constituents “on notice”? It is not as if the “experts” are even looking into treatments for the viral infection. Doctors who report their own successful experience treating Covid patients with hydroxychloroquine, for example, are ridiculed, censored, and even fired from their jobs. The rush to silence “America’s Frontline Doctors” last week and to disappear their video down the memory hole should terrify anybody who still believes in free speech. No, they say, we must keep locked down and masked until we have a vaccine. The US government is dumping billions into a vaccine that may be less than 60 percent effective to prevent a virus that has something like a 99.8 percent survival rate. What kind of math is that? How many may be harmed more by the vaccine than helped? We’ll probably never know because the US government has just granted big pharma immunity from liability claims if the vaccine produces damaging side effects. They keep moving the goal posts to keep us terrified and isolated. First it was body counts and then “cases.” The numbers have been so wildly off that it’s hard to trust any reporting. People are getting angry. They are confused. They are facing an economic depression of historic proportions. But worst of all, they are watching as Leviathan government snatches every last bit of freedom. Three cheers for the Europeans! Let’s hope America wakes up soon!

Europe's Top Health Officials Say Masks Aren't Helpful in Beating COVID-19

Description: The top medical experts in the world can’t decide if masks are helpful in reducing the spread of COVID-19 or just make things worse.
Denmark boasts one of the lowest COVID-19 death rates in the world. As of August 4, the Danes have suffered 616 COVID-19 deaths, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University. That’s less than one-third of the number of Danes who die from pneumonia or influenza in a given year. Despite this success, Danish leaders recently found themselves on the defensive. The reason is that Danes aren’t wearing face masks, and local authorities for the most part aren’t even recommending them. This prompted Berlingske, the country’s oldest newspaper, to complain that Danes had positioned themselves “to the right of Trump.” “The whole world is wearing face masks, even Donald Trump,” Berlingske pointed out. This apparently did not sit well with Danish health officials. They responded by noting there is little conclusive evidence that face masks are an effective way to limit the spread of respiratory viruses. “All these countries recommending face masks haven’t made their decisions based on new studies,” said Henning Bundgaard, chief physician at Denmark’s Rigshospitale, according to Bloomberg News. (Denmark has since updated its guidelines to encourage, but not require, the use of masks on public transit where social distancing may not be possible.) Denmark is not alone. Despite a global stampede of mask-wearing, data show that 80-90 percent of people in Finland and Holland say they “never” wear masks when they go out, a sharp contrast to the 80-90 percent of people in Spain and Italy who say they “always” wear masks when they go out. Dutch public health officials recently explained why they’re not recommending masks. "From a medical point of view, there is no evidence of a medical effect of wearing face masks, so we decided not to impose a national obligation," said Medical Care Minister Tamara van Ark. Others, echoing statements similar to the US Surgeon General from early March, said masks could make individuals sicker and exacerbate the spread of the virus. “Face masks in public places are not necessary, based on all the current evidence,” said Coen Berends, spokesman for the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. “There is no benefit and there may even be negative impact.” In Sweden, where COVID-19 deaths have slowed to a crawl, public health officials say they see “no point” in requiring individuals to wear masks. “With numbers diminishing very quickly in Sweden, we see no point in wearing a face mask in Sweden, not even on public transport,” said Anders Tegnell, Sweden’s top infectious disease expert.
What’s Going on With Masks?
The top immunologists and epidemiologists in the world can’t decide if masks are helpful in reducing the spread of COVID-19. Indeed, we’ve seen organizations like the World Health Organization and the CDC go back and forth in their recommendations.
CDC does not currently recommend the use of facemasks to help prevent novel #coronavirus. Take everyday preventive actions, like staying home when you are sick and washing hands with soap and water, to help slow the spread of respiratory illness. #COVID19
— CDC (@CDCgov) February 27, 2020

For the average person, it’s confusing and frustrating. It’s also a bit frightening, considering that we’ve seen people denounced in public for not wearing a mask while picking up a bag of groceries.
Opening day at Trader Joe’s in North Hollywood, Ca. Karen is mad she was mask shamed...
— Rex Chapman (@RexChapman) June 27, 2020

The truth is masks have become the new wedge issue, the latest phase of the culture war. Mask opponents tend to see mask wearers as “fraidy cats” or virtue-signalling “sheeple” who willfully ignore basic science. Mask supporters, on the other hand, often see people who refuse to wear masks as selfish Trumpkins … who willfully ignore basic science. There’s not a lot of middle ground to be found and there’s no easy way to sit this one out. We all have to go outside, so at some point we all are required to don the mask or not. It’s clear from the data that despite the impression of Americans as selfish rebel cowboys who won’t wear a mask to protect others, Americans are wearing masks far more than many people in European countries. Polls show Americans are wearing masks at record levels, though a political divide remains: 98 percent of Democrats report wearing masks in public compared to 66 percent of Republicans and 85 percent of Independents. (These numbers, no doubt, are to some extent the product of mask requirements in cities and states.) Whether one is pro-mask or anti-mask, the fact of the matter is that face coverings have become politicized to an unhealthy degree, which stands to only further pollute the science. Last month, for example, researchers at Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy responded to demands they remove an article that found mask requirements were “not based on sound data.” The school, to its credit, did not remove the article, but instead opted to address the objections critics of their research had raised.
First, Do No Harm
The ethics of medicine go back millennia. The Hippocratic Oath famously calls on medical practitioners to “first, do no harm.” (Those words didn’t actually appear in the original oath; they developed as a form of shorthand.) There is a similar principle in the realm of public health: the Principle of Effectiveness. Public health officials say the idea makes it clear that public health organizations have a responsibility to not harm the people they are assigned to protect. “If a community is at risk, the government may have a duty to recommend interventions, as long as those interventions will cause no harm, or are the least harmful option,” wrote Claire J. Horwell Professor of Geohealth at Durham University and Fiona McDonald, Co-Director of the Australian Centre for Health Law Research at Queensland University of Technology. “If an agency follows the principle of effectiveness, it will only recommend an intervention that they know to be effective.” The problem with mask mandates is that public health officials are not merely recommending a precaution that may or may not be effective. They are using force to make people submit to a state order that could ultimately make individuals or entire populations sicker, according to world-leading public health officials. That is not just a violation of the Effectiveness Principle. It’s a violation of a basic personal freedom. Mask advocates might mean well, but they overlook a basic reality: humans spontaneously alter behavior during pandemics. Scientific evidence shows that American workplaces and consumers changed the patterns of their travel before lockdown orders were issued. As I’ve previously noted, this should come as no surprise: Humans are intelligent, instinctive, and self-preserving mammals who generally seek to avoid high-risk behavior. The natural law of spontaneous order shows that people naturally take actions of self-protection by constantly analyzing risk. Instead of ordering people to “mask-up” under penalty of fines or jail time, scientists and public health officials should get back to playing their most important role: developing sound research on which people can freely make informed decisions.

Sweden’s disease expert says just wearing face masks could be ‘very dangerous’

Description: Sweden’s top infectious disease expert has resisted recommending face masks for the general population — arguing it’s “very dangerous” if people believe the coverings alone will stop the spread of the coronavirus. Anders Tegnell, chief epidemiologist at Sweden’s Public Health Agency, has repeatedly expressed skepticism that face masks will control virus outbreaks, the Financial Times reported. “It is very dangerous to believe face masks would change the game when it comes to COVID-19,” said Tengell, who is considered the country’s equivalent of Dr. Anthony Fauci from the White House COVID-19 task force. He noted that countries with widespread mask compliance, such as Belgium and Spain, were still seeing rising virus rates. “Face masks can be a complement to other things when other things are safely in place,” he said. “But to start with having face masks and then think you can crowd your buses or your shopping malls — that’s definitely a mistake.” He completely brushed off the prospect of wearing masks last month, saying, “With numbers diminishing very quickly in Sweden, we see no point in wearing a face mask in Sweden, not even on public transport.” Tegnell has argued that evidence about the effectiveness of face mask use was “astonishingly weak.” “I’m surprised that we don’t have more or better studies showing what effect masks actually have,” he told the UK Times. The infectious disease expert has faced backlash after the nation controversially refused to lock down, leading to a higher death rate per capita than neighboring countries that took stricter approaches. Sweden has recorded at least 85,000 cases, including more than 5,800 fatalities, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.

NYC Orthodox community holds large protest over new coronavirus restrictions

Description: Hundreds of members of the Borough Park Orthodox community took to the streets Tuesday night, defying orders to disperse and lighting a fire in protest of new state-mandated restrictions imposed on area synagogues, schools and non-essential businesses over a COVID-19 surge. One large crowd huddled closely together at the corner of 50th Street and 15th Avenue at about 9 p.m. as community activist Heshy Tischler ripped Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio over the order that shuts down schools completely and limits houses of worship to 10 people in certain COVID-19 hot spots. Much of Borough Park is subject to those measures — the most restrictive — which also shutter non-essential businesses. The level of restrictions, broken down into three color-coded categories, is guided by coronavirus diagnosis data. “It’s called civil disobedience, we can fight back,” Tischler told the crowd after tearing up his face mask. “Do not allow them to torture you or scare you,” he said, referring to the elected officials. The closures must be made no later than Friday — though a spokesman for de Blasio tweeted that they would likely begin Thursday — and run for at least two weeks. Councilman Kalman Yeger later showed up at another protest on 13th Avenue, according to Boro Park News. There, the lawmaker told the crowd: “We are not going to be deprived of the right that we have in America, like everybody else in America, the right to observe our religion.” The protests swarmed in numbers later in the night, with demonstrators shutting down 13th Avenue to vehicular traffic. Things also turned unruly when the crowd lit a rubbish fire after midnight at the intersection of 46th Street and 13th Avenue and chased away two city sheriff’s deputies who responded.

nyc-jews-burn-masks.jpg

The defiant crowd chanted “Jewish lives matter” as they held their ground. At about 1:30 a.m., FDNY firefighters and cops put out the flames, to the dismay of the protesters. Earlier in the night, Yeger was among four local Jewish lawmakers who released a joint statement slamming Cuomo over the edict. “We are appalled by Governor Cuomo’s words and actions today. He has chosen to pursue a scientifically and constitutionally questionable shutdown of our communities,” said the statement from Yeger, state Sen. Simcha Felder, Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein and Councilman Chaim Deutsch. “His administration’s utter lack of coordination and communication with local officials has been an ongoing issue since the start of the pandemic, and particularly recently as we face this uptick.” The lawmakers said that even though they represent COVID-19 hot-spot neighborhoods, the Cuomo administration had left them in the dark leading up to Tuesday’s decision. Also brought up by the legislators was Cuomo’s choice to display PowerPoint images of New York’s Jewish community gathering en masse during his Monday press briefing. “Governor Cuomo’s choice to single out a particular religious group, complete with a slideshow of photos to highlight his point, was outrageous. “His language was dangerous and divisive, and left the implication that Orthodox Jews alone are responsible for rising COVID cases in New York State,” the elected officials said.

Description: The RNC must speak out loud and clear against the COVID coup.

biden-masked.jpg

“I would shut [the country] down. I would listen to the scientists.” This is Joe Biden’s Coronavirus policy. If the “experts” say we need another national lockdown, he will implement one by fiat, no questions asked. This position spells abject ruin for the country. Now that Joe Biden has fashioned himself into the candidate of slavish piety toward “The Science,” no issue in American life is as important as the Coronavirus response. Biden is the candidate of lockdowns, virus hysteria, and always-on mask mandates. Trump must embrace the opposite. The Republican National Convention has an opportunity this week to strike a blow for freedom and limited government and against Joe Biden and his corporate backers. Before it does anything else, the RNC must repudiate lockdowns and internal travel restrictions. Even more importantly, it must attack mask mandates. A second lockdown would be difficult to enforce and is, as a practical matter, unlikely at a national level even under total Democrat rule. Mask-wearing is different. It is already the rule in large swaths of America. Less and less a show of obeisance to any medical facts, it is, increasingly, a “virtue signal”—an outward sign of inward submission to mass media hysteria and draconian edict. Therefore, our overlords, corporate and otherwise, want nothing less than universal adherence. Biden said as much in his nomination acceptance speech. For the obsessively compliant, wearing a mask at this point has nothing to do with scientific literacy. It is an entirely political act—designed to intimidate and habituate the people to smothering, dehumanizing regulations of the most intimate parts of their lives. To accept the mandatory mask is to accept alienation and the loss of one’s identity. This is why every major corporation in America wants you to wear one. They want to turn the American people into faceless, nameless consumers—literally. The near-constant Public Service Announcements, commercials, and reminders from the junior members of the auxiliary Thought Police are everywhere. Masking as a form of totalitarian control is not new. The Taliban, for instance, mandated total face coverings for women after coming to power in Afghanistan. As Associate Professor Elham Manea (author of Women and Sharia Law [2016]) explains, the burqa “is a sign of segregation” and “separation” that treats the subjected woman as a “sexualized object that has to be controlled.” Masking, in the Islamic world, is a political act, not a religious requirement. The face-covering represents allegiance to a certain kind of Islamic regime. The medical mask, in our own country, now serves a similar purpose. The mask laws in America are issued under the guise of emergency powers. Such edicts and mandates represent a new kind of regime, rooted in the performance of public health by fiat control. As Angelo Codevilla points out, the Coronavirus response represents a coup d’etat against the older political order. The COVID emergency government represents a gross violation of the separation of powers. The Republican National Convention is the perfect opportunity to resist this massive encroachment on individual liberty. President Trump and the other speakers at the RNC should lead by example—speaking without masks and refusing to mandate them for live audience members. (Yes, there should be a live audience.) What’s more, the GOP should elevate the actual facts about mask wearing and point out that the research is far from conclusive. In a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in May, experimenters concluded, “no direct evidence indicates that public mask wearing protects either the wearer or others.” A recent MedRxiv meta-analysis did find that Random Controlled Trials (RCTs) supported the idea that face masks were “slightly protective against primary infection from casual community contact, and modestly protective against household infections when both infected and uninfected members wear facemasks.” However, the same analysis noted that “RCTs often suffered from poor compliance and controls.” Many such cases. In July, the CDC used a study of masking in the Massachusetts General Brigham hospital system to argue that there was a correlation between masking and lower infection rates among health care workers. That study, however, lacked a control. Correlation is not causation. If one wants to look at a large-scale epidemiological study on face masks, look no further than Sweden. Sweden never locked down and did not implement a face mask law. Since July 19, Sweden has had daily Coronavirus deaths in the single digits. In total, 0.056% of the Swedish population died from Coronavirus. In America, where masking and lockdowns were both implemented on a massive scale, 0.054% of the population has died. The Republican National Convention should hammer these statistics nightly. Republicans should also point out that science can only tell us facts: it cannot provide moral guidance. The dehumanizing effects of mandated mask wearing cannot be ignored. Treating citizens like plague carriers is an abomination. Donald Trump should say as much at the RNC. In doing so, the GOP will make the difference between itself and the Democrats as sharp as possible. The American people are tired of the Left and their reign of fear. It is time for the Republicans to become the real resistance. This week is as good a time as any to start.

Description: Hundreds were arrested in Berlin after opponents of coronavirus restrictions marched through the city and defied the police orders to disperse. Authorities said the protesters violated court orders on health and safety.

Police in Berlin announced Saturday that they were cutting short a demonstration against coronavirus restrictions in Germany, saying that protesters had failed to abide by court-ordered guidelines. Officials estimated some 38,000 protesters took part in the rally on Saturday, a day after a court overturned the capital's ban on the protest. By the evening, police had arrested around 300 people, Berlin state Interior Minister Andreas Geisel told reporters.
Attempt to storm the Reichstag
While the rally started out peaceful, clashes were reported at multiple points, including a group of protesters breaking through a fence in front of the parliament building and rushing the stairs leading up to the Reichstag entrance. Many of them were seen wearing colors and flags of the anti-state Reichsbürger movement (Citizens of the Reich). Police used pepper spray and managed to push the group back. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas voiced understanding for the protesters in Berlin, but criticized the protest's ties to right-wing extremist groups. "Everyone has the right to argue about how to deal with [the coronavirus] and of course to demonstrate for your opinion," Maas said, adding: "NOBODY should follow around right-wing extremists, endanger police officers and expose many to the risk of infection." He also said the appearance of "Reich flags" outside of the German parliament was "shameful." Although they do not openly display Nazi symbols, the black-white-red striped flags invoke the Nazi era. Out of the 300 arrests, at least 200 of them took place during a section of the protest in front of the Russian Embassy where some 3,000 right-wing extremists and Reichsbürger members gathered. Berlin police tweeted that the arrests were made due to protesters "throwing bottles, freeing people under arrest and other crimes." They added that conspiracy theorist, vegan cookbook author and self-declared member of the "ultra-right" Attila Hildmann was among those arrested.
'We are the people'
Police had previously criticized participants for ignoring repeated instructions to follow social distancing measures, warning on Twitter that the march would not be allowed to start if demonstrators did not keep a safe distance from each other. The crowd had initially gathered around the Brandenburg Gate on Saturday morning, news agency dpa reported. Demonstrators shouted "Open the gate" and "We are the people," echoing chants used in the pro-democracy movement in former East Germany. "There is a wide variety of people here," DW's Thomas Sparrow said, reporting live from the scene. "You have people here against vaccines, you have people that are conspiracy theorists. You have families saying they just want to have the right to protest." "This is a protest that has been co-opted, to a large extent, by the far right. Although some people have told us that is not the case." He later posted pictures and a video showing police dragging away participants who had refused to leave the area.
Counter-protesters slam far-right marchers
Demonstration organizer "Querdenken 711" (Lateral Thinking 711)registered for over 22,500 people to attend. Some 3,000 police officers were deployed Saturday morning to control the crowds. Previous "anti-corona" marches in Germany have attracted support from people across the political spectrum, including those from the far-left and far-right as well as anti-vaccination campaigners and conspiracy theorists. Reporting on Twitter from Berlin on Saturday, DW correspondent Kate Brady said she'd spotted flags and T-shirts promoting far-right extremist groups among the crowd. There are also several counter-demonstrations happening across Berlin. Counter-protesters were chanting "You’re marching alongside Nazis," a reference to the fact that the march includes far-right extremists.
Court overturns ban at last minute
An administrative court in Berlin on Saturday morning ruled that the demonstration could go ahead, overturning an earlier decision from a lower court banning the protest. The city had announced the ban earlier this week, citing the lack of health precautions taken by protesters at a similar demonstration earlier this month. The new ruling required organizers and participants to meet certain conditions, and gave police the right to shut down the event if the norms are not being observed. Barriers were required in place in front of stages where speeches are held and event coordinators were told to regularly remind those in attendance to keep a safe distance from each other. The judge did not include wearing masks in the guidelines.

Description: German police have halted a march by some 18,000 coronavirus sceptics in Berlin because many were not respecting social distancing measures. The mass protest against pandemic restrictions had been allowed to go ahead after a bitter legal battle. But it had barely begun at the city's iconic Brandenburg Gate, when it was forced to stop due to a police injunction. "The minimum distancing is not being respected by most (of the demonstrators) despite repeated requests," the police said. "There is no other option than to break up the gathering." After the announcement, the demonstrators shouted "Resistance" and "We are the people," a slogan often used by the far-right, and sang the German national anthem. Police had vowed to turn out in force and strictly monitor compliance with mask-wearing and social distancing at the protest.

berlin-protest.jpg

Berlin police chief Barbara Slowik had warned that if the demonstrators did not adhere to virus safety rules, police would clear the area "very quickly"."We will not be able or willing to watch tens of thousands assemble and create infection risks," she added. In London, more than 1,000 protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square, many holding home-made banners. One called for an "End to medical tyranny"; another read "No to mandatory vaccines" while one man waved a placard declaring "Masks are muzzles".

london-protest.jpg

Celebrity conspiracy theorist David Icke was among the speakers at the London rally. "We gather here today because a deadly disease is sweeping across the world, it is not Covid-19, it is fascism," he told the cheering crowd. Around 300 people protested peacefully in Paris to denounce the government's decision to make masks obligatory in all public places as cases rise in the French capital. Protesters, some waving placards stating "Stop the lies", were quickly surrounded by police who handed out €135 fines to those not wearing masks. "There is no scientific proof of the usefulness of wearing a mask outside," said Anais, a Paris sociology student. "Covid-19 is not so dangerous, it mainly kills people over the age of 60."

About 600 people from the loosely organized Querdenker movement that opposes the government’s measures to halt the rise in coronavirus infections took to the streets in Frankfurt. Police used water cannon to free up the route of the rally, which was blocked several times by about 300 people protesting against the Querdenkers. A police spokesman said the rally was broken up after protesters repeatedly disregarded rules on wearing masks and keeping a distance from each other. Meanwhile, leading politicians said any quick relaxation of the country’s November lockdown was unlikely. Germany has imposed measures dubbed a “lockdown light” to rein in a second wave of the pandemic. While restaurants are closed, schools and shops so far remain open. Health Minister Jens Spahn said at an online event of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative party that hard weeks, possibly even months, lie ahead. “It takes a very long time even with very severe measures (to get infection rates down)”, Spahn said, pointing to the Southern German Berchtesgaden district, which has been in a full lock-down since Oct. 20. Bavaria’s conservative Prime Minister Markus Soeder said that he does not expect any lockdown rules to be eased before the end of November. “Whether they need to be extended? Possibly, we will see,” he said, adding that decisions would be taken depending how the pandemic evolves in the next two weeks. And Baden-Wuerttemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann told daily Augsburger Allgemeine that relaxing lockdown measures at Christmas would be possible only if the rate of new infections decreases in a significant way. Germany reported a rise of confirmed coronavirus cases by 22,461 to a total 775,556, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Saturday. The reported death toll rose by 178 to 12,378.
