Description: In 2014, I was the 35-year-old Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in Nevada. The landscape wasn’t looking good for my party that year. There were no high-profile national races to help boost turnout, and after the top candidate bowed out of the governor’s race, “None of the Above” ended up winning the Democratic primary. So when my campaign heard from Vice-President Joe Biden’s office that he was looking to help me and other Democrats in the state, I was grateful and flattered. His team offered to bring him to a campaign rally in an effort to help boost voter turnout. We set the date for November 1, just three days before election day. In a state as large but sparsely populated as Nevada, it takes nonstop travel to connect with all its residents. You’re lucky to get properly fed, much less look properly coiffed as female candidates are often required to do. I was exhausted and short on time, so decided to not to wash my hair the morning of the rally. I sprayed some dry shampoo in my hair, raced off to the Reno airport, and flew back to Las Vegas. The event proceeded as most political events do: coordinated chaos with random problems that no one can predict. I found Eva Longoria, co-founder of the Latino Victory Project, roaming the parking lot trying to figure out how to get inside the union hall. My staff was running around town trying to purchase ferns because according to Biden’s team, no other vegetation was acceptable for the stage. I found my way to the holding room for the speakers, where everyone was chatting, taking photos, and getting ready to speak to the hundreds of voters in the audience. Just before the speeches, we were ushered to the side of the stage where we were lined up by order of introduction.

biden-nevada.jpg

As I was taking deep breaths and preparing myself to make my case to the crowd, I felt two hands on my shoulders. I froze. “Why is the vice-president of the United States touching me?” I felt him get closer to me from behind. He leaned further in and inhaled my hair. I was mortified. I thought to myself, “I didn’t wash my hair today and the vice-president of the United States is smelling it. And also, what in the actual fuck? Why is the vice-president of the United States smelling my hair?” He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head. My brain couldn’t process what was happening. I was embarrassed. I was shocked. I was confused. There is a Spanish saying, “tragame tierra,” it means, “earth, swallow me whole.” I couldn’t move and I couldn’t say anything. I wanted nothing more than to get Biden away from me. My name was called and I was never happier to get on stage in front of an audience. By then, as a young Latina in politics, I had gotten used to feeling like an outsider in rooms dominated by white men. But I had never experienced anything so blatantly inappropriate and unnerving before. Biden was the second-most powerful man in the country and, arguably, one of the most powerful men in the world. He was there to promote me as the right person for the lieutenant governor job. Instead, he made me feel uneasy, gross, and confused. The vice-president of the United States of America had just touched me in an intimate way reserved for close friends, family, or romantic partners — and I felt powerless to do anything about it. Our strange interaction happened during a pivotal moment in my political career. I’d spent months raising money, talking to voters, and securing endorsements. Biden came to Nevada to speak to my leadership and my potential to be second-in-command — an important role he knew firsthand. But he stopped treating me like a peer the moment he touched me. Even if his behavior wasn’t violent or sexual, it was demeaning and disrespectful. I wasn’t attending the rally as his mentee or even his friend; I was there as the most qualified person for the job. Imagine you’re at work and a male colleague who you have no personal relationship with approaches you from behind, smells your hair, and kisses you on the head. Now imagine it’s the CEO of the company. If Biden and I worked together in a traditional office, I would have complained to the HR department, but on the campaign trail, there’s no clear path for what to do when a powerful man crosses the line. In politics, you shrug it off, smile for the cameras, and get back to the task of trying to win your race. After the event, I told a few of my staff what happened. We all talked about the inexplicable weirdness of what he did, but I didn’t plan on telling anyone else. I didn’t have the language or the outlet to talk about what happened. Who do you tell? What do you say? Is it enough of a transgression if a man touches and kisses you without consent, but doesn’t rise to the level of what most people consider sexual assault? I did what most women do, and moved on with my life and my work. Time passed and pictures started to surface of Vice-President Biden getting uncomfortably close with women and young girls. Biden nuzzling the neck of the Defense secretary’s wife; Biden kissing a senator’s wife on the lips; Biden whispering in women’s ears; Biden snuggling female constituents. I saw obvious discomfort in the women’s faces, and Biden, I’m sure, never thought twice about how it made them feel. I knew I couldn’t say anything publicly about what those pictures surfaced for me; my anger and my resentment grew. Had I never seen those pictures, I may have been able to give Biden the benefit of the doubt. Had there not been multiple articles written over the years about the exact same thing — calling his creepy behavior an “open secret” — perhaps it would feel less offensive. And yet despite the steady stream of pictures and the occasional article, Biden retained his title of America’s Favorite Uncle. On occasion that title was downgraded to America’s Creepy Uncle but that in and of itself implied a certain level of acceptance. After all, how many families just tolerate or keep their young children away from the creepy uncle without ever acknowledging that there should be zero tolerance for a man who persistently invades others’ personal space and makes people feel uneasy and gross? In this case, it shows a lack of empathy for the women and young girls whose space he is invading, and ignores the power imbalance that exists between Biden and the women he chooses to get cozy with. For years I feared my experience would be dismissed. Biden will be Biden. Boys will be boys. I worried about the doubts, the threats, the insults, and the minimization. “It’s not that big of a deal. He touched her, so what?” The immediate passing of judgement and the questioning of motives. “Why now? Why so long after? She just wants attention.” Or: “It’s politically motivated.” I would be lying if I said I didn’t carefully consider all of this before deciding to speak. But hearing Biden’s potential candidacy for president discussed without much talk about his troubling past as it relates to women became too much to keep bottled up any longer. When I spoke to a male friend who is also a political operative in Biden’s orbit — the first man who had heard the story outside of my staff and close friends years ago — he did what no one else had and made me question myself and wonder if I was doing the right thing. He reminded me that Biden has significant resources and argued points that made me question my memory, even though I’ve replayed that scene in my mind a thousand times. He reminded me that my credibility would be attacked and that I should be prepared for the type of “back and forth” that could occur. (When reached by New York Magazine, a representative for Vice-President Joe Biden declined to comment.) I’m not suggesting that Biden broke any laws, but the transgressions that society deems minor (or doesn’t even see as transgressions) often feel considerable to the person on the receiving end. That imbalance of power and attention is the whole point — and the whole problem.

Description: (Reuters) - A spokesman for Joe Biden said the former vice president does not recall an incident in 2014 when a female activist said he inappropriately kissed her, but some of his potential rivals for the Democratic nomination said on Saturday they believe his accuser. The allegation was made in an online essay published on Friday by Lucy Flores, a party activist who was running to be Nevada’s lieutenant governor. Flores said Biden also touched her shoulders and smelled her hair when they appeared at an event together, making her feel uncomfortable. “He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head,” Flores wrote in the essay published in The Cut, an outlet of New York Magazine. “I couldn’t move and I couldn’t say anything. I wanted nothing more than to get Biden away from me.” Responding to the accusation, Biden spokesman Bill Russo said the vice president had been happy to support Flores and to speak on her behalf at the event. “Neither then, nor in the years since, did he or the staff with him at the time have an inkling that Ms. Flores had been at any time uncomfortable, nor do they recall what she describes,” Russo said on Friday in a statement. Biden believes Flores has every right to share her own recollection, Russo added, and that it is a positive change for U.S. society that she has the opportunity. In a separate statement on Saturday, Russo said: “People know Joe Biden and they know his character, his integrity and his values,” adding that he was a champion for women. Biden served eight years as vice president under former President Barack Obama and 36 years in the U.S. Senate. He has not yet said whether he will run for president in 2020, but has been expected to throw his hat into the ring soon. Some of his potential rivals for the Democratic party’s nomination to take on Republican Donald Trump addressed the allegation on Saturday. Elizabeth Warren, a U.S. senator from Massachusetts, told reporters in Iowa that she believed Flores. “Joe Biden needs to give an answer,” Warren said. Julian Castro, a former U.S. secretary of housing and urban development from Texas who is also running for president, said he also found Flores credible, according to news reports. Flores supported Bernie Sanders in his losing 2016 bid for the Democratic nomination. Although the U.S. Senator from Vermont is running again, Flores has said on Twitter that she has not endorsed any of the candidates in this race. Should Biden decide to run in 2020, after failed bids to be the party’s nominee in 1988 and 2008, he will be a key figure in the Democratic debate over whether a liberal political newcomer or a centrist veteran is needed to win back the White House.

Description: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said on Sunday he believed he had never acted inappropriately following allegations by a female activist that he made her feel uncomfortable by kissing her at a campaign event in 2014. “In my many years on the campaign trail and in public life, I have offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort. And not once - never - did I believe I acted inappropriately. If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully. But it was never my intention,” Biden said. Biden has said he does not recall the 2014 incident.

The allegation was made in an online essay published on Friday by Lucy Flores, a party activist who was running to be Nevada’s lieutenant governor. Flores said Biden also touched her shoulders and smelled her hair when they appeared at an event together, making her feel uncomfortable. In his statement Biden added: “I may not recall these moments the same way, and I may be surprised at what I hear. But we have arrived at an important time when women feel they can and should relate their experiences, and men should pay attention. And I will.” Speaking on Sunday to CNN’s “State of the Union” show, Flores said she was glad that Biden was willing to listen but demanded that the former vice president acknowledge that his behavior was wrong. “If he’s saying that he never believed that was inappropriate then, frankly, I think that’s a little bit of a disconnect,” she said. “I want him to change his behavior. I want him to acknowledge that it was wrong.” Biden served eight years as vice president under former President Barack Obama and 36 years in the U.S. Senate. He has not yet said whether he will run for president in 2020, but has been expected to throw his hat into the ring soon. The allegations may raise questions over whether the former vice president could still run, although some Democrats on Sunday defended Biden. “Certainly, one allegation is not disqualifying but it should be taken seriously,” Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, Senate minority whip, told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday. White House adviser Kellyanne Conway also weighed in on the issue on Fox News Sunday, saying it was “bold” of Flores to come forward. “I would remind the audience that she shares Joe Biden’s political party....So it’s quite bold for her to go up against the highest levels of her own political party.”

Second woman says ex-VP Biden touched her inappropriately

Description: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Connecticut woman said Joe Biden touched her inappropriately and rubbed noses with her at a 2009 political fundraiser, becoming the second person in three days to accuse the former vice president of unwanted physical contact as he considers a White House run. “It wasn’t sexual, but he did grab me by the head,” Amy Lappos, 43, told the Hartford Courant on Monday of her encounter with Biden at a Greenwich, Connecticut, event. “He put his hand around my neck and pulled me in to rub noses with me. When he was pulling me in, I thought he was going to kiss me on the mouth.” Lappos posted about the alleged incident in a Connecticut Women in Politics Facebook group on Sunday in response to an account by former Nevada state legislator Lucy Flores, who last week accused Biden of kissing her on the back of the head at a 2014 event. The allegations could endanger a possible 2020 presidential run by Biden, who was vice president under President Barack Obama at the time of both alleged instances. He has been expected to announce a Democratic White House bid in the coming weeks and has been leading the Democratic presidential field in opinion polls. Asked about the Connecticut allegation, a Biden spokesman pointed to Biden’s statement on Sunday, when he said he did not believe he ever acted inappropriately during his many years in public life and on the campaign trail. “I have offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort. And not once — never — did I believe I acted inappropriately,” Biden said in the statement. “If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully. But it was never my intention.” Biden has long been known for a warm and intimate campaign style, but his propensity for hugging and physical touching has come under new scrutiny in the #MeToo era as awareness about sexual assault and harassment has grown. Lappos, a former aide to U.S. Representative Jim Himes, told the Courant she felt uncomfortable when Biden approached her at a fundraiser for Himes. She said she was in the kitchen with three or four other volunteers when Biden moved toward her. “I never filed a complaint, to be honest, because he was the vice president. I was a nobody,” said Lappos, who is now a freelance worker with nonprofit agencies. “There’s absolutely a line of decency. There’s a line of respect. Crossing that line is not grandfatherly. It’s not cultural. It’s not affection. It’s sexism or misogyny.” Lappos did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Reuters. Some Biden supporters rallied to his defense. Elizabeth Alexander, a former Senate and White House aide to Biden, wrote in a USA Today column that he supported women and was a champion for their rights even when it was not politically expedient.

Trump takes shot at Biden over kiss complaint

Description: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump took a shot on Tuesday at former Vice President Joe Biden, a possible Democratic rival in the 2020 race for the White House, mocking him over allegations of unwanted physical contact with women. In a speech to a fundraising dinner for the National Republican Congressional Committee, Trump twice alluded to the allegations from two women that are hanging over Biden as he weighs whether to enter the contest to become the Democratic candidate in November 2020 presidential elections. A former Nevada state legislator last week accused Biden of kissing her on the back of the head at a 2014 event, and a Connecticut woman said Biden rubbed noses with her at a 2009 event. Biden has said he did not believe he ever acted inappropriately, and his defenders have said he is known for hugging and being physically affectionate. In wide-ranging remarks that meandered for more than 80 minutes but often circled back to the 2020 race, Biden was the only potential rival Trump mentioned by name - a sign that he would view Biden as a strong challenger, were he to enter and win the Democratic race. Biden was vice president under President Barack Obama and had a long career in the Senate before that. He had been expected to announce his bid for the Democratic primary race this month and has led the large field of Democratic hopefuls in opinion polls. Trump told the dinner, which raised $23 million for Republicans running for the House of Representatives, a story about wanting to kiss a general he met in Iraq who had promised an expedient end to a campaign against Islamic State militants in Syria. “I said, ‘General: come here and give me a kiss.’ I felt like Joe Biden,” Trump said, drawing laughter and applause. Earlier, he told the crowd - which was dotted with members of the House - that they would be “going into the war with some socialists” in the next election. “It looks like the only non-, sort of, heavy socialist is being taken care of pretty well by the socialists,” Trump said. One of Biden’s accusers has been a supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders, who has already entered the Democratic primary race, and whose views are to the left of Biden. “I was going to call him - I don’t know him well - I was going to say, ‘Welcome to the world, Joe. You having a good time, Joe? You having a good time?” Trump said. Trump struggled during his 2016 run for office with multiple accusations of unwanted sexual contact from women, particularly after videotaped remarks emerged of Trump bragging about groping women. Biden, while campaigning for Trump’s Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, had said he would like to take Trump “behind the gym” to beat him up for the comments.

Former Vice President Biden launches White House bid as Democratic frontrunner

Description: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, a moderate who has made his appeal to working-class voters who deserted the Democrats in 2016 a key part of his political identity, launched a bid for the White House on Thursday as the party’s instant frontrunner.

biden-says-hi.jpg

Biden announced the third presidential bid of his career by video on YouTube and other social media, drawing a stark contrast between himself and President Donald Trump in a contest he said was a fight for the future of American democracy. “We are in the battle for the soul of this nation,” he said. “I believe history will look back on four years of this president and all he embraces as an aberrant moment in time. But if we give Donald Trump eight years in the White House, he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation, who we are, and I cannot stand by and let that happen.” Trump responded in a post on Twitter, slamming Biden’s “intelligence” and vowing to meet him “at the Starting Gate” if the Democrat wins his party’s “nasty” nomination fight. Biden, 76, had been wrestling for months over whether to run. His candidacy will face numerous questions, including whether he is too old and too centrist for a Democratic Party yearning for fresh faces and increasingly propelled by its more vocal liberal wing. Biden starts as leader of the pack in opinion polls of a Democratic field of 20 contenders seeking a chance to challenge Trump, the likely Republican nominee, in November 2020. Critics say his standing in polls is largely a function of name recognition for the former U.S. senator from Delaware, whose more than four decades in public service includes eight years as President Barack Obama’s No. 2 in the White House. Obama’s spokeswoman Katie Hill said in a statement that Obama has long said selecting Biden to be his running mate in 2008 was one of the best decisions he ever made. The statement fell short of a formal endorsement, but said Obama relied on Biden’s insight, knowledge and judgment through both election campaigns and his entire presidency. Biden will travel across the country in the coming weeks to detail his plans to rebuild the middle class, kicking off his tour with a visit on Monday to Pittsburgh, his campaign said. On May 18, he will hold a rally in Philadelphia to “lay out his vision for unifying America with respected leadership on the world stage—and dignified leadership at home,” it said. Pennsylvania, not far from Biden’s home state of Delaware, is a key battleground state and former industrial hub that backed Trump in 2016. The Republican president is seeking to capture the state again even as Democrats saw wins there in the 2018 midterm congressional election. Democratic U.S. Senators Chris Coons of Delaware and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania threw their support behind Biden in statements early on Thursday.
‘THREAT TO NATION’
As speculation about his bid mounted, Biden faced new questions about his propensity for touching and kissing strangers at political events, with several women coming forward to say he had made them feel uncomfortable. Biden struggled in his response to the concerns, at times joking about his behavior. But ultimately, he apologized and said he recognized standards for personal conduct had evolved in the wake of the #MeToo movement. Trump and his allies seized on the flap, attempting to weaken the incumbent president’s likely top rival before Biden entered the race. Even so, Biden was determined to push forward, arguing that his background, experience and resume best positioned him to take on Trump next year. In his announcement on Thursday, Biden held up the example of the August 2017 attack at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that killed a female counterprotester as a defining moment for the nation. “It was there ... we saw (Ku Klux) Klansmen and white supremacists and neo-Nazis come out in the open ... bearing the fangs of racism,” Biden said, criticizing Trump’s remarks at the time that there were “very fine people on both sides.” There was no moral equivalence between racists and those fighting such inequality, he said. “In that moment, I knew the threat to this nation was unlike any I had ever seen in my lifetime,” said Biden.
CENTRIST CANDIDATE
Biden’s candidacy will offer early hints about whether Democrats are more interested in finding a centrist who can win over the white working-class voters who backed Trump in 2016, or someone who can fire up the party’s diverse progressive wing, such as Senators Kamala Harris of California, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, or Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.

democratic-freeway.jpg

His long history in the Senate, where Biden was a leading voice on foreign policy, will give liberal activists plenty to criticize. As Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, he angered women’s rights activists with his handling of sexual harassment allegations against Clarence Thomas during the justice’s 1991 Supreme Court confirmation hearings. He also has been censured over his ties to the financial industry, which is prominent in his home state of Delaware, and for his authorship of a 1994 crime act that led to increased incarceration rates. Biden has been one of the party’s more aggressive Trump critics. Last year, he said he would have “beat the hell” out of Trump if the two were in high school because of the way the president has talked about women. That prompted Trump to call him “Crazy Joe Biden” and to claim on Twitter that Biden would “go down fast and hard, crying all the way” if they fought. Biden later lamented the exchange, saying: “I shouldn’t get down in the mosh pit with this guy.” Known for his verbal gaffes on the campaign trail, Biden failed to gain traction with voters during his previous runs in 1988 and 2008. He dropped his 1988 bid amid allegations he had plagiarized some of his stump oratory and early academic work. But his experience and strong debate performances in 2008 impressed Obama enough that he tapped Biden as his running mate. Biden decided against a 2016 presidential bid after a lengthy public period of indecision following the death of his son Beau of brain cancer in May 2015. Beau had urged him to run. Biden faces similar family considerations this time around as he continues to cope with Beau’s demise, while his other son, Hunter, has gone through a divorce.

Description: In an interview, Lucy Flores says she came forward now because she fears Joe Biden would make it harder for Democrats to contrast with Trump on the treatment of women.

biden-coons.jpg

The former Nevada lawmaker who accused Joe Biden of giving her an “awkward kiss” in 2014 said Sunday she decided to go public because she wanted to force Democrats to confront his inappropriate behavior as the former vice president decides to run for the White House. “It’s so easy to Google ‘Creepy Biden’ and you get all these compilations of pictures and video evidence of young women and women looking very, very uncomfortable,” Lucy Flores, a former Nevada assemblywoman and 2014 candidate for lieutenant governor, told POLITICO. Flores said she initially kept quiet about the incident — in which she said Biden approached her from behind at a political event, smelled her hair and kissed the back of her head without her permission — because of a “general fear of retribution and backlash and judgment and all the things that happen to women who speak out against powerful men.” But the #MeToo movement and Biden's serious consideration of a presidential run changed her mind. Her friends and political allies in Nevada were talking to Biden and his associates about his potential bid this month. And the pictures and video clips of Biden hugging women, caressing their hair and holding on to their shoulders in too-familiar ways began surfacing on social media.

Image

“When I started to see pictures of him behaving in the same way he did with me and with other women, it was very triggering,” she said. “I felt so much empathy for them. I knew what they were going through. I had been in their shoes.” Flores said the Democratic nominee will need to differentiate herself or himself from President Trump, whom she described “as a full-on sexual harasser, misogynist and probably sexual assaulter” who is far worse than Biden. But Biden’s baggage makes it harder to draw a sharp break with Trump, Flores said. “You get in the race-to-the bottom conversation when you are discussing degrees of bad. And that’s never a good thing,” she said. “It makes the conversation a little more difficult because then you are getting into the, ‘Well, it’s not as bad. It’s bad but it’s not that bad.’ Or you force people to say, ‘That’s not bad at all.’ And I’m saying yes it is. It is bad.” Biden’s camp did not reply to the particulars of Flores’ new statements, but it did point to a new Medium post from Stephanie Carter, the wife of former Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who said a picture of Biden holding her by her shoulders at an event was innocent and that he “kept his hands on my shoulders as a means of offering his support.”

Previously, Biden's aides have issued two carefully worded statements about Flores' accusations. The latter, released before the Sunday TV political shows, asserted that he “offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort. And not once — never — did I believe I acted inappropriately. If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully. But it was never my intention. “I may not recall these moments the same way, and I may be surprised at what I hear,” he added. “But we have arrived at an important time when women feel they can and should relate their experiences, and men should pay attention. And I will.” A slew of Democratic candidates for president said they believed Flores, while allies of Biden tried to discredit her. Flores said Biden’s second statement was better than the first, but “by him saying that never ever did he believe his behavior was inappropriate is still a big problem because it’s really hard for me to believe that after so many years of the same type of behavior and so many pictures and so many videos that someone didn’t at some point didn’t say to him, ‘You should stop behaving this way.’” Biden has not called Flores to discuss the matter, and she said she doesn’t expect him to. Biden has sounded contrite before without following up. In 2017, he said he owed an apology to Anita Hill for the way he, as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1991, handled her sexual harassment accusations against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. But as of 2018, Hill told Elle magazine, Biden hadn’t called her. “‘He said, ‘I owe her an apology.’ People were asking, ‘When are you going to apologize to her?’”’ Hill told the publication. “It’s become sort of a running joke in the household when someone rings the doorbell and we’re not expecting company. ‘Oh,’ we say, ‘Is that Joe Biden coming to apologize?’” Biden last week offered another public apology to Hill and expressed regret about the way her hearing was handled. But Flores said that statement, too, lacked substance. “His recent comment of him saying he wishes he could have done more is so lacking in responsibility,” she said. “To suggest that, as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee that he could not have done more, is just false.” Flores said she knew Biden's allies would attack her after she came forward, but she's also been encouraged by the support she's received, too.

Image

“We’re talking about invasion of your bodily space, of your privacy, agency over your own body and who gets to touch it and how we ought to feel around very, very powerful men and how those powerful men should behave,” she said. “This is not new, this is something that we have known for a very long time. And it was just never addressed with the seriousness that it deserves. I feel like that’s progress.”

Execs claim Biden’s brother offered Biden’s help promoting business venture

Description: New allegations tie the former VP directly to his brother’s private dealings.
Joe Biden’s younger brother told potential business partners that the former vice president would help their firm land business with court systems and would incorporate their health care model into his 2020 presidential campaign, according to new allegations made in a court filing in Tennessee. The allegations are consistent with others made over the years that relatives of Biden have sought to enrich themselves off of his public service. But they go further, representing the first explicit claims that James Biden offered to have the former vice president use his clout to further private business interests. The allegations come in sworn declarations made by executives at firms suing Biden’s brother that were filed in federal court on Friday. They do not allege any wrongdoing by Joe Biden or indicate that the former vice president had knowledge of his brother’s alleged promises. Neither George Mesires, a lawyer for James Biden, nor Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, immediately responded to a request for comment on the new allegations. The firms, Azzam Medical Services and Diverse Medical Management, provide rural health care solutions. They sued James Biden and his business partners in June, claiming that, beginning in 2017, the group offered disingenuously to partner with the firms as part of a fraudulent scheme to bankrupt them and steal their business models. In the Friday filing, three executives at the firms allege new details about their interactions with James Biden. According to one of the declarations, by Diverse Medical Management’s CEO Michael Frey, James Biden suggested he would enlist his older brother’s help in landing the firm contracts for court-ordered outpatient care. Frey describes meeting James Biden in January 2018 at a hospital in Pineville, Kentucky, where Frey was asked to make a presentation about his firm’s operating model. "During my presentation regarding intensive outpatient treatment, James Biden interrupted me to say, ‘My brother needs to have you in every court system in America,’” Frey alleges, adding, “I left the meeting very excited and optimistic about the future of DMM [Diverse Medical Management].” According to another declaration, by Mohannad Azzam, in the lead-up to Biden’s presidential campaign launch, James Biden promised in a phone call “that the DMM psychiatric care model would be used by Joe Biden as part of his campaign.” Azzam alleges that in another phone call last fall, “James Biden mentioned that his brother’s connections to labor unions and the Department of Veterans Affairs would help DMM expand its model nationwide.” Similarly, in a third declaration, Mitchell Cohen, Diverse Medical Management’s former general counsel, alleges that at a dinner outside of Philadelphia around early September 2018, James Biden said that his brother’s connections at the Department of Veterans Affairs could help the firm land VA contracts. Cohen also alleged that James Biden “stated that he could facilitate contracts between DMM and first responders based on the relationships that his brother had with certain labor unions.” Those allegations echo the accounts that former executives at Paradigm Global Advisors, a defunct hedge fund firm once owned by James Biden and the former vice president’s son, Hunter Biden, have previously given to POLITICO. The former Paradigm executives said James and Hunter spoke of their plans to capitalize on Joe Biden’s ties to unions, including firefighters unions, to land investments from union pension funds, although Paradigm did not successfully land such investments. In a response to the original complaint, James Biden and his associates have denied engaging in any fraudulent scheme. James “Biden and his wife, Sara, have a long-held and passionate commitment to finding solutions for the improved treatment of both substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder and the linkage between them, particularly in rural areas where so many local hospitals are failing,” according to the response.

Description: Apart from whether Biden kissed the back of Flores' head, stories about Joe being handsy are essentially the Kobayashi Maru no-win scenario for his candidacy.

biden-flores.jpg

As it becomes increasingly likely that Joe Biden will launch a presidential campaign, the former vice president has come under fire from potential rivals and the woke elite faction of his own party (including Big Media). The woke hope to scare Biden out of entering the race or, barring that, to ensure he makes a bad first impression with voters. The ploy could not be more transparent, but it carries risks his critics may not fully appreciate. The most severe blast to date is an accusation by Lucy Flores, who ran for lieutenant governor of Nevada in 2014. Flores claimed that at a campaign event, Biden “got closer to me from behind. He leaned further in and inhaled my hair. I was mortified… He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head.” Second- and third-tier 2020 candidates like Elizabeth Warren and Julian Castro wasted no time in pouncing on the story. “I believe Lucy Flores,” Warren said, adding: “And Joe Biden needs to give an answer.” Castro believes Flores too. Neither would say it disqualifies Biden from running, of course; they are just raising questions. As Edward-Issac Dovere notes at The Atlantic, there are questions to ask about the Flores claim, if not the ones Warren and Castro want asked. Among other things, Flores not only backed Bernie Sanders in 2016, but until 2018 sat on the board of Our Revolution, a group formed by Sanders’ top operatives to preserve his grassroots infrastructure in anticipation of a 2020 run. Flores was also spotted at Beto O’Rourke’s first big campaign rally last weekend. In addition, others at the event at issue are questioning whether the incident occurred (although this may be confusion over the specifics of Flores’ accusation). Notably, the thesis of The Atlantic article is that Team Biden hurt itself by not having more of a pre-campaign organization that could help mitigate and spin stories like this, which is true as far as it goes. But the idea is also too clever by half. Apart from whether Biden kissed the back of Flores’ head, stories about Joe being handsy and smelling people’s hair are essentially the Kobayashi Maru no-win scenario for his candidacy. Had Team Biden pointed out Flores’ biases, or suggested her unprovable accusation was inaccurate, Biden’s opponents would have stretched the news cycle with stories about how it was proof Biden has learned nothing since the Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas hearings, let alone the Me Too moment. This is why Biden issued explanations, rather than an apology, about the incident. Any apology on this front would turn into a near-endless series of similar claims. Indeed, in the post-Me Too era, the establishment media is probably going to be loath to raise questions about Flores, especially if she is a handy weapon in the campaign to stop Biden. Jake Tapper raised some of them. To her credit, Flores admitted politics were the impetus for her coming forward. She added she found the Hill issue and Biden’s past pro-life stands to be problematic. Flores made it clear she considers Biden disqualified for a host of reasons. Flores correctly notes Biden’s history of similar creepy behavior is well-established and previously was dismissed as an issue. It was particularly dismissed by her fellow Democrats (and the media), despite their claim to be the party of women’s rights. At the time, Biden’s space invasions were seen as just another eccentricity in wacky Uncle Joe’s repertoire. Obviously, the Me Too moment has changed the seriousness with which everyone views such issues. But as far as anyone knows, Biden is no Harvey Weinstein, and Flores makes no such claim. Barring the unforeseen, Biden’s antagonists will be left with a talking point undermined by Democrats’ past acceptance of inappropriate behavior by Biden and other Democrats. So the woke are not relying solely on Biden’s handsy work—which includes not only women, but children and at least one male state trooper—as a line of attack. Rebecca Traister, writing at the same outlet that published Flores, recently laid out a full-spectrum dump of opposition research (whether she received it or compiled it is irrelevant here). She catalogues a litany of charges, including Biden’s opposition to forced busing, minimal pro-life sympathies, and defender of big banks. Even some of his achievements, like the Violence Against Women Act, are painted in patriarchal terms. In Traister’s world: “Biden is the Democrats’ answer to the hunger to ‘make America great again,’ dressed up in liberal clothes. The New York Times‘ Jamelle Bouie has in fact argued that Biden’s racial politics have offered a form of Trumpism on the left, a ‘liberal cover to white backlash.’ To that I would add, he has provided liberal cover to anti-feminist backlash, the kind of old-fashioned paternalism of powerful men who don’t take women’s claims to their reproductive, professional, or political autonomy particularly seriously, who walk through the world with a casual assurance that men’s access to and authority over women’s bodies is natural. In an attempt to win back That Guy, Joe Biden has himself, so very often, been That Guy.” The problem with the woke carpet-bombing campaign—aside from the question of whether much of it sticks—is that carpet-bombing eventually reaches the saturation point. If there were more nuclear charges, one might expect they would have been deployed. Once the woke have identified all the lines of attack on Biden, how are those attacks sustained through 2019 and into the actual primary season? If Biden is a version of President Trump, the woke might consider Trump is president in part because he was willing to tough out any number of serious accusations against him and his campaign. Although the woke are empowered by the 24/7 outrage cycle on cable news and digital media, the incredible shrinking news cycle makes outrages more difficult to sustain in the face of a target willing to ignore them. Just ask the top elected Democrats in Virginia, all of whom were expected to resign in the face of two blackface scandals and a claim of sexual assault. All three remain in office, and the stories seem like ancient history, despite having broken in mid-February. Outside the media—social and otherwise—riding out the storm often works.

Connecticut woman says then-Vice President Joe Biden touched her inappropriately at a Greenwich fundraiser in 2009

Description: A Connecticut woman says Joe Biden touched her inappropriately and rubbed noses with her during a 2009 political fundraiser in Greenwich when he was vice president, drawing further scrutiny to the Democrat and his history of unwanted contact with women as he ponders a presidential run. "It wasn't sexual, but he did grab me by the head," Amy Lappos told The Courant Monday. "He put his hand around my neck and pulled me in to rub noses with me. When he was pulling me in, I thought he was going to kiss me on the mouth." Lappos posted about the alleged incident on the Facebook page of Connecticut Women in Politics Sunday in response to a similar account by former Nevada legislator Lucy Flores, which comes as Biden is considering a 2020 run for president. Flores accused Biden of kissing her on the back of her head in 2014, when she was a candidate for lieutenant governor. Lappos, 43, who is now a freelance worker with nonprofit agencies, said she felt extremely uncomfortable when Biden approached her at the 2009 fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4th, where she was volunteering. At the time, Lappos was a congressional aide to Himes, who she said was not in the room when the incident took place.

biden-lappos.jpg

"I never filed a complaint, to be honest, because he was the vice president. I was a nobody," Lappos said. "There's absolutely a line of decency. There's a line of respect. Crossing that line is not grandfatherly. It's not cultural. It's not affection. It's sexism or misogyny." A spokeswoman for Biden declined to respond to the allegations by Lappos and instead offered a statement that Biden issued Sunday about the Flores controversy. "In my many years on the campaign trail and in public life, I have offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort. And not once - never - did I believe I acted inappropriately," Biden said. "If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully. But it was never my intention. I may not recall these moments the same way, and I may be surprised at what I hear. But we have arrived at an important time when women feel they can and should relate their experiences, and men should pay attention. And I will." Himes, who is in his sixth term as the congressman for southwestern Connecticut, said he first learned Monday about the allegation by Lappos and was not prepared to immediately comment. The $1,000-per-plate luncheon with Biden took place at Oct. 5, 2009, at the Cliffdale Road home of affordable housing developer Ron Moelis. Future Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy were in attendance, as well as future Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. Biden spoke for about 20 minutes outside the home on a terrace, which was open to the media. Reporters were not allowed inside the house, which is where Lappos said the incident took place. Lappos appeared in three photos with Biden at the event, which she said were taken after his remarks and before the incident. She said she was in the kitchen with four to five other volunteers, when Biden moved toward her. Bob Natt, a major contributor to Democrats and an Easton resident, said he and his wife had their photo taken with Biden and did not witness anything questionable. “The entire photo session was in good fun and Joe did nothing inappropriate,” said Natt, who shared photos from the event with The Courant. In her Facebook post, Lappos used the pseudonym Alice Paul, the suffragist who championed the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote and the Equal Rights Amendment, to discuss her exchange with Biden. "Biden did something similar to me at a fundraiser in Greenwich when I was a congressional aide," Lappos wrote in her Facebook post. "I'm really disappointed to see this [Facebook] post ask 'thoughts' as if the grossness of men invading women's boundaries to sniff and touch is debatable. And shame on some of the women here excusing this as boys being boys or it's not as bad as Trump. I can speak from experience when I say it's an incredibly uncomfortable situation and not at all acceptable. We need to hold our men to the same standards we hold all men." Biden is the top choice of Democrats for president in 2020 in a number of recent public opinion polls, including those in battleground states such as Pennsylvania and Nevada. But in the wake of #MeToo scandals in politics, media and business, some Democrats say, the party must have a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior. Lappos said that Democrats cannot condone Biden’s behavior and anoint him as a presidential candidate while at the same time condemning President Donald Trump for his sexist treatment of women. "If Biden truly supports women and gender equality he would step aside and support one of the many talented and qualified women running," she said. "The same goes for the other men who have thrown their hat in the ring. Women are 52 percent of the population. We are not a minority, we are the majority. It is time we are represented as such. After 45 male presidents it is time we elect a woman." Biden said in his statement Sunday that he has a strong record of supporting women. "I will also remain the strongest advocate I can be for the rights of women," Biden said. "I will fight to build on the work I've done in my career to end violence against women and ensure women are treated with the equality they deserve. I will continue to surround myself with trusted women advisers who challenge me to see different perspectives than my own. And I will continue to speak out on these vitally-important issues where there is much more progress to be made and crucial fights that must be waged and won."

Description: Two years after leaving office, Joe Biden couldn’t resist the temptation last year to brag to an audience of foreign policy specialists about the time as vice president that he strong-armed Ukraine into firing its top prosecutor.

biden-poroshenko.jpg

In his own words, with video cameras rolling, Biden described how he threatened Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in March 2016 that the Obama administration would pull $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees, sending the former Soviet republic toward insolvency, if it didn’t immediately fire Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin. “I said, ‘You’re not getting the billion.’ I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money,’” Biden recalled telling Poroshenko. “Well, son of a bitch, he got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time,” Biden told the Council on Foreign Relations event, insisting that President Obama was in on the threat.

Interviews with a half-dozen senior Ukrainian officials confirm Biden’s account, though they claim the pressure was applied over several months in late 2015 and early 2016, not just six hours of one dramatic day. Whatever the case, Poroshenko and Ukraine’s parliament obliged by ending Shokin’s tenure as prosecutor. Shokin was facing steep criticism in Ukraine, and among some U.S. officials, for not bringing enough corruption prosecutions when he was fired. But Ukrainian officials tell me there was one crucial piece of information that Biden must have known but didn’t mention to his audience: The prosecutor he got fired was leading a wide-ranging corruption probe into the natural gas firm Burisma Holdings that employed Biden’s younger son, Hunter, as a board member. U.S. banking records show Hunter Biden’s American-based firm, Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC, received regular transfers into one of its accounts — usually more than $166,000 a month — from Burisma from spring 2014 through fall 2015, during a period when Vice President Biden was the main U.S. official dealing with Ukraine and its tense relations with Russia. The general prosecutor’s official file for the Burisma probe — shared with me by senior Ukrainian officials — shows prosecutors identified Hunter Biden, business partner Devon Archer and their firm, Rosemont Seneca, as potential recipients of money. Shokin told me in written answers to questions that, before he was fired as general prosecutor, he had made “specific plans” for the investigation that “included interrogations and other crime-investigation procedures into all members of the executive board, including Hunter Biden.” He added: “I would like to emphasize the fact that presumption of innocence is a principle in Ukraine” and that he couldn’t describe the evidence further. William Russo, a spokesman for Joe Biden, and Hunter Biden did not respond to email messages Monday seeking comment. The phone number at Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC in Washington was no longer in service on Monday. The timing of Hunter Biden’s and Archer’s appointment to Burisma’s board has been highlighted in the past, by The New York Times in December 2015 and in a 2016 book by conservative author Peter Schweizer. Although Biden made no mention of his son in his 2018 speech, U.S. and Ukrainian authorities both told me Biden and his office clearly had to know about the general prosecutor's probe of Burisma and his son's role. They noted that:
* Hunter Biden's appointment to the board was widely reported in American media;
* The U.S. Embassy in Kiev that coordinated Biden's work in the country repeatedly and publicly discussed the general prosecutor's case against Burisma;
* Great Britain took very public action against Burisma while Joe Biden was working with that government on Ukraine issues;
* Biden's office was quoted, on the record, acknowledging Hunter Biden's role in Burisma in a New York Times article about the general prosecutor's Burisma case that appeared four months before Biden forced the firing of Shokin. The vice president's office suggested in that article that Hunter Biden was a lawyer free to pursue his own private business deals.
President Obama named Biden the administration’s point man on Ukraine in February 2014, after a popular revolution ousted Russia-friendly President Viktor Yanukovych and as Moscow sent military forces into Ukraine’s Crimea territory. According to Schweizer’s book, Vice President Biden met with Archer in April 2014 right as Archer was named to the board at Burisma. A month later, Hunter Biden was named to the board, to oversee Burisma’s legal team. But the Ukrainian investigation and Joe Biden’s effort to fire the prosecutor overseeing it has escaped without much public debate. Most of the general prosecutor’s investigative work on Burisma focused on three separate cases, and most stopped abruptly once Shokin was fired. The most prominent of the Burisma cases was transferred to a different Ukrainian agency, closely aligned with the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, known as the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), according to the case file and current General Prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko. NABU closed that case, and a second case involving alleged improper money transfers in London was dropped when Ukrainian officials failed to file the necessary documents by the required deadline. The general prosecutor’s office successfully secured a multimillion-dollar judgment in a tax evasion case, Lutsenko said. He did not say who was the actual defendant in that case. As a result, the Biden family appeared to have escaped the potential for an embarrassing inquiry overseas in the final days of the Obama administration and during an election in which Democrat Hillary Clinton was running for president in 2016. But then, as Biden’s 2020 campaign ramped up over the past year, Lutsenko — the Ukrainian prosecutor that Biden once hailed as a “solid” replacement for Shokin — began looking into what happened with the Burisma case that had been shut down. Lutsenko told me that, while reviewing the Burisma investigative files, he discovered “members of the Board obtained funds as well as another U.S.-based legal entity, Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC, for consulting services.” Lutsenko said some of the evidence he knows about in the Burisma case may interest U.S. authorities and he’d like to present that information to new U.S. Attorney General William Barr, particularly the vice president’s intervention. “Unfortunately, Mr. Biden had correlated and connected this aid with some of the HR (personnel) issues and changes in the prosecutor’s office,” Lutsenko said. Nazar Kholodnytskyi, the lead anti-corruption prosecutor in Lutsenko’s office, confirmed to me in an interview that part of the Burisma investigation was reopened in 2018, after Joe Biden made his remarks. “We were able to start this case again,” Kholodnytskyi said. But he said the separate Ukrainian police agency that investigates corruption has dragged its feet in gathering evidence. “We don’t see any result from this case one year after the reopening because of some external influence,” he said, declining to be more specific. Ukraine is in the middle of a hard-fought presidential election, is a frequent target of intelligence operations by neighboring Russia and suffers from rampant political corruption nationwide. Thus, many Americans might take the restart of the Burisma case with a grain of salt, and rightfully so. But what makes Lutsenko’s account compelling is that federal authorities in America, in an entirely different case, uncovered financial records showing just how much Hunter Biden’s and Archer’s company received from Burisma while Joe Biden acted as Obama’s point man on Ukraine. Between April 2014 and October 2015, more than $3 million was paid out of Burisma accounts to an account linked to Biden’s and Archer’s Rosemont Seneca firm, according to the financial records placed in a federal court file in Manhattan in an unrelated case against Archer. The bank records show that, on most months when Burisma money flowed, two wire transfers of $83,333.33 each were sent to the Rosemont Seneca–connected account on the same day. The same Rosemont Seneca–linked account typically then would pay Hunter Biden one or more payments ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 each. Prosecutors reviewed internal company documents and wanted to interview Hunter Biden and Archer about why they had received such payments, according to interviews. Lutsenko said Ukrainian company board members legally can pay themselves for work they do if it benefits the company’s bottom line, but prosecutors never got to determine the merits of the payments to Rosemont because of the way the investigation was shut down. As for Joe Biden’s intervention in getting Lutsenko’s predecessor fired in the midst of the Burisma investigation, Lutsenko suggested that was a matter to discuss with Attorney General Barr: “Of course, I would be happy to have a conversation with him about this issue.” As the now-completed Russia collusion investigation showed us, every American deserves the right to be presumed innocent until evidence is made public or a conviction is secured, especially when some matters of a case involve foreigners. The same presumption should be afforded to Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, Devon Archer and Burisma in the Ukraine case. Nonetheless, some hard questions should be answered by Biden as he prepares, potentially, to run for president in 2020: Was it appropriate for your son and his firm to cash in on Ukraine while you served as point man for Ukraine policy? What work was performed for the money Hunter Biden’s firm received? Did you know about the Burisma probe? And when it was publicly announced that your son worked for Burisma, should you have recused yourself from leveraging a U.S. policy to pressure the prosecutor who very publicly pursued Burisma?

Description: Poor Joe Biden. He is learning what it is like when the master has the monster he has helped to create, turn on him.

biden-touch.jpg

The Democrat Party in America is a mutative organism. It has shown an ability to morph over the centuries as the circumstances surrounding it changes. This newest version of Democrat may reflect their perfection as a lower political life form. That might sound like a contradiction in terms, but the party’s history is rife with such inconsistencies. The “Party of Jefferson” was formed in 1792 by his supporters and those of Founders like James Madison who favored decentralized government (can you imagine?). Members were called Democrat-Republicans (more irony). The group ruled successfully up until the time of Andrew Jackson in 1824 when the Presidential election got tossed to the House of Representatives and dissension ensued. The party fractured and from that breakup, today’s Democrat Party emerged. After the Civil War, the party became strong in the south where it championed segregation and Jim Crow Laws. It shape-shifted again in the mid-’60s as members learned that Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” programs provided a way to capture as voters the same people they had been discriminating against for decades. The Democrats became the party of handouts. They added pacifism to their lapel as Vietnam progressed and collected other “causes” along the way. Their specialty has been to find various groups or categories of people and give them a way to identify themselves as victims who are entitled to something, anything, as redress. They give people a place to be aggrieved. Of late, however, their mutation has been rapid, even rabid, in nature. Starting with the Supreme Court decision in Bush V. Gore after the 2000 election they have turned from a party of causes, either real or contrived, and have become the party of anger and intolerance. The frothing reached an extreme with the election of Donald Trump in 2016 and they have attacked him with a savagery that has never been seen on such a large scale in the history of American politics (and we have had our share of political bitterness). They created an elaborate national hoax involving President Trump and Russian collusion. They threw everything they had upon the Kremlin wall but none of it would stick. Now, still Walking Dead-angry, they are turning on themselves. We see AOC struggling with Nancy Pelosi. We have Chuck Schumer and Ilhan Omar in conflict. Now, the newest bit of cannibalism involves “Uncle” Joe Biden and the #MeToo Movement. The Democrat Party is going to have to rename itself “The Donner Party.” Biden is being accused by former Nevada politician Lucy Flores of grabbing her shoulders, smelling her hair, and kissing her head at a 2014 political event. I’m not certain if that constitutes three offensive acts or if hair smelling and head kissing are combined? Let’s move on. In addition to Ms. Flores, another accuser has come forward. Independent writer, Amy Lappos, has told the Hartford Courant that in 2009 the Vice President approached her at a political fundraiser and behaved, well, like Joe. “It wasn’t sexual, but he did grab me by the head. He put his hand around my neck and pulled me in to rub noses with me. When he was pulling me in, I thought he was going to kiss me on the mouth.” Hold on tight, Joe (or don’t hold on, maybe), there will be more accusations, the veracity of which will not be examined nor will they be permitted to be doubted. The angry mob that is the Democrat Party is coming for you. They should come for you, by the way, but not because of dubious accusations of seemingly subjective inappropriate behavior. In his book, Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends, Breitbart News senior editor-at-large Peter Schweizer reports that back in 2013, while you, VP Biden, were in China visiting the Chinese President, your son, Hunter Biden, struck a deal with China’s state-owned bank on behalf of his private equity firm, Rosemont Seneca Partners, LLC, to create a $1 billion joint investment fund. Coincidence? About as coincidental as smelling someone’s hair while kissing their head. There needs to be an investigation as to whether or not the Vice President pulled any strings or initiated any sort of quid pro quo for his son. Hopefully, our President will get that started through the Justice Department. In the meantime, the Democrat Party prefers to attack Biden on the trendier issue of men behaving badly. How do you make sense of this selective outrage? More to the point, if you are a Democrat how do you know when to go after someone? How do you know who to hate and when? Here is the tip: If someone in your party or any other party, is accused of committing any transgression against any one of the protected groups within your party, then you lash out. If someone is simply using their office for the purpose of personal enrichment and exploitation, that’s perfectly OK. This upcoming 2020 political race is going to be incredible theater. Since all of the Democrat candidates agree on their personal hatred for President Trump, the trick to differentiate themselves from one another will be in proving which of them is more self-righteous than the next. While this is ultimately not healthy for the party, they cannot control their appetites. Hate and anger are insatiable. I’m looking forward to watching them eat.

Great America PAC Releases ‘Creepy Joe’ Biden Ad

Published: April 2, 2019

Description: A Super PAC supporting President Donald Trump launched an ad on Tuesday attacking “Creepy” Joe Biden for his habit of touching women without their consent. The ad features a CNN interview with one of Biden’s accusers, Nevada state legislator Lucy Flores, describing the disturbing behavior of his actions. It also features footage of the former Vice President cozying up to women and children in public situations similar to the one described by Flores. “To have the vice president of the United States do that to me, so unexpectedly and just kind of out of nowhere, it was just shocking,” Flores said.

The ad also features images of children watching the footage, a parody of an ad run by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2016 against Trump. “Our children are watching,” the ad concludes. “What example are we setting for them.” Great America PAC launched the ad on Tuesday with plans spend six figures on pushing it digitally according to the Hill, with plans to run them on television if Biden decides to run for president. The PAC also launched its website http://www.stopjoebiden.com Biden said over the weekend that he did not believe he acted inappropriately with anyone during “countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort” throughout his political career. “Not once — never — did I believe I acted inappropriately,” he said. “If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully. But it was never my intention.”

Rand Paul: Americans Will Be ‘Shocked’ to Know What Biden’s Son Was Up To

Description: Sunday on ABC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) discussed a report from The New York Times on questions of former vice president Joe Biden’s potential conflict of interest.

Partial transcript as follows:
STEPHANOPOULOS: Good morning, lets start where Chairman Schiff just left off right there that perhaps Congress should consider making it illegal to engage foreign governments, foreign assistance in campaigns. You agree?
PAUL: Well I think the American people will be shocked and dismayed to know that Joe Biden’s son was making $50,000 a month just a couple of months after he was dishonorably discharged from the military for drugs. $50,000 a month, I think most Americans will be dismayed that the president’s son was doing this while Joe Biden was actually lobbying to have this company, you know, go free of prosecution. My understanding, this was reported in the New York Times, Joe Biden was asking the prosecutor to lay off of the company that Hunter Biden was working for for $50,000 a month –
STEPHANOPOULOS: That’s – that’s not – that’s –
PAUL: — kicked out of the military, that’s extraordinary.
STEPHANOPOULOS: That’s not what – that’s not what was reported, in fact he was on an anti-corruption drive.
PAUL: Well actually that’s exactly what was reported, yes, that he got $50,000 a month right after he was kicked out of the military. That’s exactly true and nobody disputes that.
STEPHANOPOULOS: That’s very separate from what you just said about what the vice president was saying right there.

Description: A recent Bloomberg report purportedly “casts doubt” on the reporting regarding Joe Biden’s conflict of interest in Ukraine. Biden’s conflict stems from Burisma Holdings (Burisma), a Ukrainian natural gas company where Biden’s son, Hunter, was a director. In March 2016, Joe Biden threatened to withhold IMF funding from Ukraine if officials did not fire Viktor Shokin, who was then serving as Ukraine’s Prosecutor General. At the time, Shokin’s office was overseeing an investigation into Burisma and its owner, Mykola Zlochevsky. According to Bloomberg’s source, Shokin’s investigation had been “shelved” in 2015, well before Biden’s intervention, and “[t]here was no pressure from anyone from the U.S. to close cases against Zlochevsky.” Various outlets seized on the report to dismiss coverage of the Biden scandal:
* PolitiFact: “It’s not even clear that the company was actively under investigation”
* Axios: “Ukrainian official knocks down Biden conflict scandal”
* New York Magazine: “The investigation into Burisma was dead long before Biden started his campaign to oust Shokin”
The problem with these claims is that they are contradicted by Burisma’s own attorney. John D. Buretta, an American attorney representing Burisma at the time, was interviewed by the Kyiv Post in 2017. Buretta described the cases against Zlochevsky as extending well into 2016, fitting the timeline reported by The Hill and the New York Times. “In August 2014, the Office of the Prosecutor General (PGO) opened a criminal proceeding,” Buretta claimed, “Over the two years the PGO matter was open, no evidence was presented supporting any claim that Mr. Zlochevskyy had abused his position while in public office. In September 2016, the Pechersk District Court of the City of Kyiv concluded that no criminal procedures should be taken against Mr. Zlochevsky.” The case’s dismissal ultimately came under Yuriy Lutsenko, who replaced Shokin as Prosecutor General in May 2016, after Biden’s threat to withhold $1 billion in IMF funding. Buretta has his own ties to the Obama administration. He served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General under Eric Holder before going into private practice in 2013. Later, Hunter Biden helped recruit Buretta to Burisma’s legal defense team. In the same interview with the Kyiv Post, Buretta said that he joined Burisma “on the recommendation of other highly-regarded U.S. advisers…and Burisma’s distinguished Board of Directors,” which included, at the time, Hunter Biden. Burisma appointed Hunter Biden and his business partner, Devon Archer, to its Board of Directors in 2014, shortly after the Maidan revolution. Documents obtained by the Government Accountability Institute show that Burisma paid $3.1 million to an account tied to Hunter Biden’s businesses over a 14-month period. Biden, who was responsible for overseeing legal and compliance issues for Burisma, claims that he had no role in the investigation into Burisma and never spoke about it with his father. The scandal around Zlochevsky and Burisma dates back to his time as Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources minister under Viktor Yanukovych, who was ousted as President during the 2014 revolution. Burisma, whose ownership was unknown at the time, obtained its key assets through a non-public auction process during Zlochevsky’s tenure. Zlochevsky’s involvement with Burisma was not revealed to the public until after he stepped down from his post. Geoffrey Pyatt, then US ambassador to Ukraine, singled out Zlochevsky’s case as an especially egregious case of mismanagement in 2015, calling for closer scrutiny the prosecutors who handled the case. Joe Biden claims that his pressure on Shokin was in line with this criticism. Yet Biden’s intervention appears to have been, at best, ineffective in increasing scrutiny on Zlochevsky. At worst, as Buretta’s claims indicate, it may have been an extension of that same corruption.

Flashback–Joe Biden in 2013: ‘Overwhelmingly’ in America’s Interest for China to ‘Prosper’

Description: Leading Democrat presidential primary candidate Joe Biden said in a 2013 speech that China’s economic dominance is “overwhelmingly” in the United States’ interests. In a 2013 speech at the Export-Import Bank’s 2013 Annual Conference, Biden touted the need for the multilateral free trade deal known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as a necessity to creating a “new world order.” Biden said he proudly supported TPP, which he acknowledged would have opened global markets and forced American workers and U.S. industry to compete against low-wage foreign workers in countries like Malaysia and Vietnam. “These institutions that the affirmative task we have now is to actually create a new world order because the global order is changing again,” Biden told Export-Import bankers. Central to this multilateral, open markets agenda, Biden said, is ensuring that foreign countries are prosperous — including China. Biden said at the time that China having a prosperous economy is “overwhelmingly” in the interests of American businesses and U.S. workers:
We have to update the global rules of the road, we have to do it in a way that maximize benefits for everyone because obviously its overwhelmingly in our interests. This is not a zero-sum game. It’s overwhelmingly in our interests that China prosper, that Mongolia prosper, that nations big and large, east and west, in Latin America and in Africa prosper … we want everyone to have a little money to make sure they can buy American products.

Similarly, Biden conceded to China’s economic rise over the last three decades. Rather than shifting economic power back to the West, Biden said the U.S. must “assert” itself as a “resonate economic power” in the Eastern region of the world through TPP, which he promised would help merge economies “across the Pacific.” “The world’s economic engine has shifted eastward and we know that it is in Asia where much of the opportunity in the 21st Century will be found,” Biden said. “Economically, Asia already accounts for more than one-quarter of global GDP. Over the next five years, the Asian Pacific may account for as much as 60 percent of global growth.” Biden continued:
That’s why, through the efforts like the Trans-Pacific Partnership … we’re continuing to assert ourselves as a resonate economic power in the region. Think about the opportunity that the Trans-Pacific Partnership, alone, represents. Eleven members comprising 658 million people with a combined economic output of $20.5 trillion per year. We’ve been working to forge an agreement that will bring together economies from across the Pacific, developed and developing alike. The Trans-Pacific Partnership is perhaps the most ambitious trade negotiation underway in the world.

TPP, before being ultimately killed by President Trump, was expected to eliminate millions of American jobs from the U.S. economy, as well as driving down working and middle-class wages. Though Biden has declared himself, in recent years, a “fair trader,” his goals in the 2013 speech made clear that he supports the elimination of all tariffs and the free flow of products. “That’s why we have an ambitious agenda, not only to eliminate tariffs but also to tackle costly so-called ‘behind-the-border barriers’ to the flow of goods and services,” Biden said. For years, Biden has downplayed the economic dominance of China. This month, Biden scoffed at the notion that China was an economic threat to the U.S. and American workers:

biden-china-theat.jpg

China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man. They can’t even figure out how to deal with the fact that they have this great division between the China Sea and the mountains in the east, I mean in the west, They can’t figure out how they are going to deal with the corruption that exists within the system. I mean, you know, they’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they’re not competition for us.

This week, Biden blasted Trump’s recent hiking of tariffs on China to 25 percent on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of foreign goods to protect American workers and U.S. industry. “The only people paying the price are farmers and working people right now,” Biden said. “He’s going about it all the wrong way, a lot of bravado, no action.” Biden has continuously claimed that free trade deals like NAFTA have created more American jobs than those lost. Data from the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) finds otherwise.
For years, Biden has been falsely claiming NAFTA created jobs in Delaware. The latest figures put the U.S. job loss at about 17K.
— John Binder (@JxhnBinder) May 1, 2019

The U.S. trade deficit with China has eliminated at least 3.5 million American jobs from the country’s economy, the latest data from EPI has found. Millions of Americans in all 50 states have been displaced from their jobs, which have been lost due to U.S.-China trade relations. States that saw the largest amount of job loss from free trade with China include California, where more than 560,000 U.S. jobs have been lost; Texas, where 314,000 U.S. jobs were eliminated; and New York, which saw 183,500 U.S. jobs lost in the state. States like Oregon, New Hampshire, Minnesota, North Carolina, Vermont, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island were among the ten “hardest-hit states, when looking at job loss as a share of total state employment,” the EPI researchers note. When pushing NAFTA in the early 1990s, Biden said a Chrysler plant in his home state of Delaware would benefit greatly from subjecting the company to more foreign competition. In 2007, the Chrysler plant in Delaware was idled and between 700 to 1,100 American workers were laid off. Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer’s book, Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends, details in depth the financial dealings of the Biden family in China, especially those of Biden’s son, Hunter. Specifically, Schweizer’s book exposed a $1.5 billion deal in 2013 between Hunter Biden’s firm and the Bank of China signed after Biden had flown to China with his son aboard Air Force Two. A recent revelation from The Intercept revealed that Hunter Biden’s Chinese investment firm invested in one of the Chinese corporations that helped create the surveillance system designed to electronically spy on Muslim residents.

Description: Breitbart News has exclusively obtained a heretofore unreported-on police report from days before the 2016 presidential election that describes how a cocaine pipe that authorities determined was used to smoke cocaine was found in a rental car returned to an Arizona Hertz location in the middle of the night. Also found in the vehicle were several personal effects of Hunter Biden, then-Vice President Joe Biden’s son, like two of his DC driver’s licenses, multiple credit cards, and personally identifying information like a Delaware Attorney General badge and a U.S. Secret Service business card that police said bore his name. Hunter Biden, according to the police report, had rented the vehicle from a location in California with the intent to return it to the Prescott, Arizona, location, where it was discovered the morning after it was dropped off with the drug paraphernalia and Hunter Biden’s personal effects inside. Instead of returning the car keys to the drop box where after-hours returns are supposed to go, the car was returned—according to the police report—with the keys left in the gas tank compartment of the vehicle. Also found inside the vehicle, per the police report, were two drivers’ licenses both bearing Hunter Biden’s legal name Robert Biden, as well as “some credit cards with the same name,” “a secret service business card,” and an “Attorney General’s badge” all contained inside a wallet that Hertz rental employees discovered—along with a pipe that Hertz employees thought and police later confirmed was used to smoke illicit drugs, as well as “a white powdery substance in the arm rest of the vehicle.” The next morning, according to the police report, a man who identified himself as “Joseph McGee” called the Hertz rental car counter to inform them of how the keys to the car were left in the vehicle’s gas cap rather than in the normal spot. “McGee” informed the rental car company employee, according to police, that “his friend was feeling sick so they didn’t know what to do” when the car was returned. Police, according to a supplemental report filed by a Prescott Police Department detective, sought and obtained a subpoena to discover the source of the “Joseph McGee” phone call—and traced it to a phone number owned and operated by a renowned “Colon Hydrotherapist” in the region. Police attempted to find and interview “Joseph McGee,” but were unable to–and they also, per the documents, attempted to call Hunter Biden himself from the phone numbers he provided to the rental car company. Prescott Police Department officials were unable to reach Hunter Biden during the investigation for an interview on the matter, though, according to the documents, they did attempt to call him. One of the Prescott Police Department officers who responded to the initial scene wrote that according to his Sergeant, described in the report as “Sgt Small,” the Secret Service had informed the local police that “Robert Biden had been located by the Secret Service and was well.” Laboratory analysis by the Arizona Department of Public Safety later determined that the pipe discovered in the vehicle was used to smoke cocaine, not meth, but fingerprints were not found on the device. The 23 pages of law enforcement and police documents repeatedly refer to the suspect under investigation as Robert Hunter Biden and the report type as a “Narcotics Offense.” Breitbart News is publishing the documents here, with redactions made to remove personally-identifying contact information like addresses and phone numbers as well as the last names of key witnesses. Two different Prescott Police Department officers as well as a detective conducted an investigation—but ultimately local authorities in both the city and county attorney’s offices declined to prosecute the case. A document shows the reason the county attorney declined to prosecute the vice president’s son is because they thought they would only be able to get minor charges to stick, and kicked it down to the city attorney. It is unclear from the documents why the city attorney declined to prosecute. In addition to local police, FBI and the U.S. Secret Service agents were roped into the case, as well. The FBI dispatched agents to the scene, according to the law enforcement documents, and the Secret Service communicated with the various law enforcement officials investigating and confirmed that Hunter Biden was not in harm’s way. As his father launches yet another bid for the presidency, Hunter Biden has emerged as a major scandal-prone problem for the former Vice President and leading Democrat candidate for the 2020 nomination. Hunter Biden’s position at Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings has come under scrutiny in the wake of his father’s push as Vice President to pressure the Ukrainian government to terminate a governmental investigator, Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who was investigating Burisma Holdings. His firm also received a $1 billion private equity investment from the Chinese Communist government after he and his father traveled to Beijing toward the end of Barack Obama’s presidency, and while Hunter Biden’s alleged corruption connections with his father’s official government actions remain the central focus of deep-dive reporting on the Bidens the former vice president’s son has been problematic for the 2020 frontrunner in many more ways too. Back in 2014, Hunter Biden was discharged dishonorably from the Navy after failing a drug test that his commander said he should have known was coming. “All sailors would be advised of the zero-tolerance policies when reporting aboard,” Captain Jack Hanzlik, commander of the Navy Public Affairs Support Element based in Norfolk, Virginia, said in 2014 according to USA Today. “And they would be advised of the testing practices of the organization, as well.” Hanzlik was the commander of the unit to which Hunter Biden was assigned for his brief time in the Navy—which according to the Wall Street Journal lasted only a month. His Navy Commission required multiple waivers—one to waive the age requirement, and another to waive past drug convictions which would have disqualified him. Then, within about a month of his Commission as a Naval officer, he was dishonorably discharged for the positive drug test. After Hunter Biden’s brother Beau died, he began dating Beau’s widow Hallie—but they reportedly split up in 2019. Hunter Biden’s first wife Kathleen divorced him very messily in 2017. Kathleen alleged in court filings that Hunter Biden blew tons of the family’s money on hookers, strip clubs, and drugs. While most of these incidents have all been reported publicly, this Prescott, Arizona, incident just days before the 2016 general election has never been reported until now. This public reporting of this Arizona incident comes in the wake of Joe Biden publicly defending his son Hunter Biden in an Associated Press interview, where the former Vice President was fending off allegations of impropriety regarding the Ukraine situation in particular. But during the interview, the former Vice President said his son has “great integrity.” “I have great confidence in my son,” Joe Biden said. “He’s a man of great integrity.” The police report and this incident is particularly detailed, as officials in the Prescott, Arizona, Police Department investigated Hunter Biden for months—from the time of the actual incident in late October 2016 until at least late February 2017—according to the police filings. “On 10/28/2016 at approximately 2200 hours Robert Biden returned a rental vehicle to Hertz car rental at 6500 MacCurdy Dr and left his identifications, credit cards, Attorney General badge, cell phone, a meth pipe, and a used bindle to meth inside the vehicle,” reads the police report, obtained by Breitbart News and authored on Oct. 29, 2016, by Officer Troy Crawford of the Prescott, Arizona, Police Department. Officer Crawford explains in the police report that he and Officer Arron Jennison of the Prescott Police Department received a call shortly after noon the next day reporting “suspicious” activity. “Upon arrival I made contact with a Hertz rental car employee named Emily [LAST NAME REDACTED],” Crawford wrote. “Emily took me to the vehicle that she moved from its parked spot to an area just north of the parking lot of Crystal Dr. I arrived at the location and observed a silver Jeep Compass with a Nevada license plate parked facing west in a gravel area.” “Emily told me that they got a call at approximately 1000 hours from a Joseph McGee stating that his friend had left the car there over night and the keys were in the gas cap area,” Officer Crawford continued. “Emily told me that McGee told her that his friend was feeling sick so they didn’t know what to do. Emily stated that the car was suppose[d] to be returned last night at 2000 hours. Emily stated the store closes at 1700 hours so no one was present when the vehicle was returned.” Officer Crawford continued in his report by noting what Emily said happened next. “Emily said she went over to the car that was parked in the furthest northwest parking spot that Hertz owns and recorded the gas and mileage,” Crawford wrote. “Emily stated she noticed there was personal property inside the vehicle. Emily said there was a wallet with an Attorney’s General badge, two driver licenses that had the name of Robert Biden, some credit cards with the same name, and a secret service business card. Emily said the items were laid out on the passenger side dash board. Emily also stated there was a pipe that she thought was used to smoke meth and a white powdery substance in the arm rest of the vehicle.” From there, Emily processed the rental car return like normal, Officer Crawford wrote, but the “credit card on file was being declined.” “Emily stated they pushed the card through for payment,” Officer Crawford wrote. “Emily stated she called Joseph’s number back to let him know the car has been returned and a female answered the phone. Emily asked for Joseph and let him know that the car was returned but Joseph never asked for the property left in the car. Emily said it felt weird so she contacted her manager who contacted police. Emily stated while she was contacting her manager she looked up the name on the internet and realized the ID’s and credit cards belong to Vice President Joe Biden’s son.” Officer Jennison’s supplemental report also describes, from Hertz manager Jennifer’s perspective, how the rental car facility staff discovered that this car with suspicious materials left inside was rented by the son of the then-Vice President of the United States. Jennifer managed three different Hertz rental car locations and was at a different one when her staff called her to inform of what was discovered. According to Officer Jennison, Jennifer “stated that Emily and Zach told her that they had Googled the name Robert Biden and that a photo came up of the subject on line that matched that the photo of the Washington D.C. driver’s licenses.” “[LAST NAME REDACTED] said that Emily and Zach told her that the subject, Robert Biden, appeared to be the son of Vice President, Joe Biden,” Officer Jennison wrote. When police arrived on scene, according to Officer Crawford’s report, they found even more evidence in the vehicle. “When I approached the vehicle I observed several items on the dashboard of the passenger side,” Officer Crawford wrote. “I later discovered they were the ID’s and Attorney General badge Emily was talking about. Emily stated she put those items back in the dash area where she located them. I opened the passenger side door and when I did I observed a small white and brown pipe approximately 3-4 inches long and a small ziplock bag with a white powdery substance inside all sitting on the passenger seat. Emily was asked if she touched the items. Emily stated she did pick up the pipe because she did not know what it was. Emily said when she was told what it was she placed everything back inside the vehicle. A Hertz incident report, rental agreement, smoke filter, and a multi-tool, were also located on the floor of the front passenger side of the vehicle. A cell phone was later located under the driver seat.” The officer wrote that he asked Emily about the incident report discovered in the Biden rental vehicle, and she explained that Hunter Biden “was in an accident and traded a vehicle in for this silver Compass in Palm Springs, Ca.” “Emily stated that the incident report is suppose to document how the accident happened and where the damage to the vehicle was located,” Officer Crawford continued. “When I looked at the report I observed Robert Biden’s name on the report along with his Washington DC address and phone numbers.” While Officer Crawford dealt with assessing the situation in the vehicle, Officer Jennison was on the horn with detectives—who ordered the police officers to photograph the scene. “While I was looking at the items that were left inside the vehicle Ofc Jennison was talking to detectives by telephone,” Officer Crawford wrote. “Please see Ofc Jennison’s supplement for his involvement in this case. Ofc Jennison stated that pictures should be taken of the scene. I grabbed my camera and took photos of the scene. They were later placed into property and evidence. A short while later Ofc Jennison stated that detectives has contacted the FBI and they were en route. A short time later two FBI agents arrived on scene.” At that stage, Officers Crawford and Jennison handed the case over to the FBI and to detectives. “After the two agents arrived Detective Brazell and Sgt Small arrived on scene,” Officer Crawford wrote. “Detective Brazell processed the scene. Please see Det. Brazell’s supplement for his involvement in this case. While the scene was being processed I stayed with the car. I was later informed by Sgt Small that Robert Biden had been located by Secret Service and was well. After Robert was located and the scene was released I returned the car keys to Hertz.” In his supplemental report, Officer Jennison wrote that he attempted to contact Hunter Biden with the contact information he provided on his rental agreement and that the rental car location manager confirmed that Hunter Biden was the name of the person who originally rented the vehicle. “I asked [LAST NAME REDACTED] if Robert Biden was the name of subject that originally rented the vehicle,” Officer Jennison wrote. “She stated that it was. I asked where the original vehicle was rented from. I was told that it had been rented from Los Angeles, Ca (LAX Airport) on 10-26-16 at approximately 0349 hours with a rental return destination of Prescott, Az. I was told that the vehicle was scheduled to be returned in Prescott on 10-27-16 at approximately 2000 hours. [LAST NAME REDACTED] also advised that the credit card/debit card that was provided at the time of rental had been denied. I asked [LAST NAME REDACTED] if Robert had provided any contact information on the original rental contract. She stated that there were two phone numbers provided. She gave me both numbers, REDACTED and REDACTED. I called the first number that went to a voice mail message stating that the voice mail box was full. The second identified a business (Seneca) and then said to push #1 to contact Hunter Biden. I pushed the #1 then heard a ring followed by a busy signal. I could not make contact.” The documents obtained by Breitbart News also include two reports from Prescott Police Department Detective Jeremy Brazell. The first report is a summary of his investigation, and the second details the closing of the case without charges being brought after both city and county prosecutors declined to comment. “On October 29, 2016, I was advised by my supervisor, Sgt Small, that I needed to respond to the Prescott Airport and Hertz for a suspicious vehicle that had been dropped off the prior night,” Detective Brazell wrote in his report filed on Oct. 31, 2016. “Upon arrival I located Ofc Jennison, Ofc Crawford and (RP/W) Emily [LAST NAME REDACTED] near the airport terminal standing outside a Silver Jeep. I immediately began processing the vehicle for evidence. I started by taking photographs of the vehicle and the items located inside the vehicle. I was provided a bag that contained ID’s, credit cards, a cell phone (Apple), and an Attorney General badge for the state of Delaware.” It is notable that Hunter Biden had a Delaware Attorney General badge. He never served as Attorney General of Delaware, his brother Beau—who passed away due to cancer—did. “Once pictures were taken, I began collecting items from the vehicle,” Detective Brazell continued. “Please see the property sheet for details of the items seized from the vehicle.” The “Property Supplemental” document lists out all the things Detective Brazell seized into police evidence while investigating Hunter Biden. They include, per the extra document attached at the end of Brazell’s report, an iPhone with a dead battery, two DC driver’s licenses, four Visa credit cards, and a U.S. Secret Service business card with as Detective Brazell noted in the property report “Biden’s name on all.” Also, the Delaware Attorney’s General Badge was placed into evidence too. In a “black wallet,” Detective Brazell noted as he placed it into evidence, was found a small torn clear “baggie” containing “residue (small amount) white.” The detective also put the pipe in which he noted there was “residue in pipe,” into evidence, in addition to “tape” that he wrote was “used to pick up white residue from vehicle.” In his report on the investigation on the scene, Detective Brazell further describes the investigatory process. “I noted that there was a glass pipe on the passenger side seat that had burnt residue inside the pipe,” Detective Brazell wrote. “I noted that this type of glass pipe is commonly used to smoke illegal substances. I also found a torn small clear plastic baggie next to the pipe with white residue. I was advised by Ofc Crawford and Jennison that in between the two front seats of the Jeep, the console opened up and there was white residue present. I located the white residue and used tape to pull up some of the residue and folded the tape back onto the other end to trap the residue in the tape. I also placed a small piece of tape to close the end of the torn clear baggie as well to keep any residue inside the baggie. All items, including the glass pipe were later placed into evidence.” From there, Detective Brazell explains how he discussed the incident with the rental car employee, Emily, who described the phone call to report the car’s return that she received from “Joseph McGee.” “[LAST NAME REDACTED] confirmed that she could not provide the exact time the vehicle was dropped off and noted that they were not aware that the vehicle had been dropped off until ‘Joseph McGee’ had called around 1000 hrs,” Detective Brazell wrote. “[LAST NAME REDACTED] confirmed that McGee called from a phone number of [REDACTED PHONE NUMBER]. [LAST NAME REDACTED] noted that she called that number back and a female answered the call but was able to put ‘Joseph’ on the phone. The scene was secured after Sgt Small was contacted by the Secret Service and told that Robert Biden was secure/well. The keys to the vehicle were turned back over to Hertz.” Detective Brazell then explains some more key details from his investigation. “On Monday, October 31, 2016, I called the phone number REDACTED [the number that ‘McGee’ had called Hertz from], to speak again with McGee about what took place the previous week and see if he could put me in touch with Biden,” Detective Brazell wrote. “The call was answered by a female and when I asked if I could speak with Joseph she noted that he had just went into a store. I then identified myself and advised the female I was looking into some suspicious circumstances surrounding a vehicle that had been left at the Prescott Airport. The female stated ‘Oh yeah, You know they left the keys in the gas cap because they didn’t know there was a drop box.’ I then noted that the female obviously had some information as well she might be able to provide and asked for her name. The female said that her name was ‘Puma’ and when I asked her if that was her first name or last name she noted that she did not wish to provide me any additional information, stated that she would tell Joseph to call me and then hung up the phone.” Detective Brazell then sought and received a subpoena from the county attorney for the phone records associated with the phone number. “I contacted the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office and spoke with Carrol Kennedy,” Detective Brazell wrote. “I confirmed with YCAO that they did not want any of the items released in the case that had been seized from the vehicle and she said yes. I requested a GJ Subpoena to Verizon for the phone number belonging to ‘Puma’ and it was granted. I faxed the subpoena after it had been stamped by the clerks office a short time later.” Verizon’s compliance with the subpoena provided interesting information about whose phone number the “Joseph McGee” phone call came from. “On November 2, 2016, I received a reply from Verizon about the phone number [REDACTED],” Detective Brazell wrote. “I found that the phone number belonged to a Shauna Stangl out of Comville or Cottonwood, AZ. The address on the Verizon account appears to be a UPS box location in Cottonwood. I found Stangl had a listed address according to AZ DMV in Comville, AZ. I also found that Stangl is the Co-Founder or Owner of Grace Grove out of Sedona, AZ, and according to the website her name at the Grace Grove Center is ‘Puma St. Angel.’ I attempted to call Stangl again and my call went unanswered and I found that the voice mail box had not been set up. I have not been able to make contact with Stangl or McGee at this time.” The organization’s website described Stangl, also known as “Puma,” as a leading “Colon Hydrotherapist.” Through such treatment, the website says, she helps with “guiding individuals through physical purification for mental clarity” something she “considers one of the greatest journeys a human can experience.” She also runs Colon Hydrotherapy retreats. “For 14 years, Puma has been studying, researching, and facilitating cleansing and rejuvenation retreats, with many of the originators of the Living Food movement,” the Grace Grove Lifestyle Center website reads when describing her. “The saying, ‘follow your gut instincts’ significantly impacted Puma’s early adult life. She discovered that the healing of all ailments is focused in the digestive system. As an independent, certified colon hydrotherapist, Puma began her career in Tucson, Arizona. While at Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center in Patagonia, Arizona, she became a consistently sought-after healer and medical intuitive. She uses her unique training and abilities to empower others to trust the innate wisdom of their own bodies. Working as a certified Colon Hydro therapist in Tucson and the Tree of Life in Patagonia, she has transformed hundreds of people through physical, emotional and mental detoxing. Puma’s work as a Colon Hydrotherapist has given her a unique understanding and deep intuitive insight into the health of fellow humans. She earned her degree in Chemistry and Spanish at the University Of Arizona. As the co-founder of Grace Grove Lifestyle Center, Puma is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after ‘medical intuitives’ on the planet. She uses her unique abilities to empower others to trust the innate wisdom of their own body. In another part of the organization’s website describing her services, the Grace Grove Lifestyle Center explains Colon Hydrotherapy. “A colonic also known as colon hydrotherapy is the process of gently infusing water (we only use the highest quality structured water) into the colon through a disposable speculum,” the website reads. “The speculum which is inserted into your rectum has 2 tubes attached to it. One tube is the water hose which allows the water to enter your colon and the 2nd tube is the waste evacuation hose allowing all the bodies waste material to leave the body. The process takes approximately 30-40 minutes and during this time the client will experience several fills and releases.” Accompanying the police report documents from Officers Crawford and Jennison and Detective Brazell are two pages of documents from the crime lab which conducted forensic examination of the drug paraphernalia found in the car that Hunter Biden rented. Again, Hunter Biden’s legal name “Robert Biden” appears at the top of both documents from the Arizona Department of Public Safety. One, with a stamped date of Dec. 13, 2016 and signed by Jason O’Donnell—a forensic scientist for the Northern Regional Crime Laboratory for the state—says that the pipe found in the car “contained cocaine residue.” The second, with a stamped date of Jan. 26, 2017, and signed by a different forensic scientist Richard W. MacLean III in the same office of the state crime lab found regarding the cocaine pipe that it “was processed with no latent prints of value for comparison developed.” In other words, the crime lab was attempting to find fingerprints on the cocaine pipe but did not find any “of value for comparison” off the pipe. Another document obtained by Breitbart News is a Yavapai County Attorney document date stamped on Nov. 21, 2016. In it, the County Attorney’s office says it is declining to prosecute the named suspect “Robert Hunter Biden” and explains why. “Carol D. Kennedy has reviewed the report and prosecution is declined for the following reasons,” the document reads. It then lists the recommended charge that Detective Brazell had brought to the County Attorney for Hunter Biden: “Drug Paraphernalia-Possess/Use.” and notes that it was “Declined, Referred to City Prosecutor.” “Does not warrant felony prosecution on these facts at this time,” the County Attorney document reads. “The highest possible charge is a class six felony. That charge would likely be designated a misdemeanor even if D convicted at a jury trial. D has no prior felonies. This charge can be appropriately handled in the Prescott City Court. Please forward to the Prescott City Prosecutor for misdemeanor review.” So, next, Detective Brazell reached out to the city prosecutors regarding potential charges—but the city attorney declined to prosecute as well, according to a later supplemental police report Detective Brazell filed on Feb. 28, 2017. “This case was reviewed by the city prosecutor’s office and YCAO and both declined charges for (S) Robert Biden,” Detective Brazell wrote. “DPS advised that there was Cocaine residue in the pipe but they further noted that no latent fingerprints were developed or found on the pipe. At this time the case will be complete.” The Biden campaign did not reply to a request for comment on behalf of the former vice president or his son Hunter Biden. The Prescott Police Department did not reply to a request for comment. The county and city attorneys’ offices did not reply to a request for comment. Stangl, and her organization the Grace Grove Lifestyle Center, did not reply to a request for comment, nor did Hertz rental car’s corporate communications officials. The FBI and U.S. Secret Service also did not reply to a request for comment.

NYT Confirms Hunter Biden Bank of China Deal, Leaves Out Key Details

Description: A Tuesday New York Times article confirms revelations in Peter Schweizer’s bestselling book Secret Empires regarding the $1.5 billion deal Hunter Biden’s private equity firm secured from the state-owned Bank of China while his father was vice president; however, the Times omits key details that call into question statements made by Biden’s associates about the foreign financial deals engulfing his father’s 2020 presidential campaign in scandal. The Times’ article focuses on criticism of President Trump’s call for an investigation into the financial deals Hunter Biden’s firm secured in Ukraine and China while his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, was negotiating U.S. foreign policy with those countries. However, the article does at least acknowledge that the deals occurred. “Hunter Biden and a business partner, Devon Archer, were involved in a fund that reportedly pursued an investment from the Chinese government-owned Bank of China,” the Times states. The Times continues:
The fund was announced in late 2013 — days after Hunter Biden and one of his daughters flew to China from Japan aboard Air Force Two with the vice president, who was in the midst of a diplomatic mission intended to calm rising tensions in the region. During the trip, Vice President Biden warned Chinese leaders not to use fighter jets to enforce an air defense zone created by Beijing over contested waters. The conservative author Peter Schweizer has claimed that Hunter Biden used the trip to secure a deal with the Bank of China — a claim that has been echoed by Mr. Trump’s allies in the conservative news media. But a lawyer for Hunter Biden said he did not conduct any business related to the China investment fund on that trip, and was not an equity owner in the fund while his father was vice president. He later acquired a 10 percent interest in the entity that oversees the fund, but to date has not received any money from the arrangement, according to the lawyer.

The Times fails to note basic facts about Biden and his associates that would challenge their version of events or, at the very least, offer readers context to assess the veracity of their claims. In June 2009, Hunter Biden teamed up with Christopher Heinz, the stepson of then-Massachusetts Senator and later Obama Secretary of State John Kerry, and a longtime Heinz-Kerry family associate Devon Archer to form an international private equity firm rooted in the investment fund Rosemont Capital. The firm was Rosemont Seneca Partners, LLC, and was one of a series of related LLCs formed by Biden, Heinz, and Archer that branched off of Rosemont Capital. The other offshoots included Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners and Rosemont Realty. “Of the various deals in which these Rosemont entities were involved, one of the largest and most troubling concerns Rosemont Seneca Partners,” Schweizer noted in Secret Empires. Hunter Biden was the managing partner at Rosemont Seneca Partners. When the firm was created in 2009, Biden and his associates eschewed headquartering the firm in the world’s financial capital of New York City and instead opted to lease space in Washington, DC, where just five months earlier Biden’s father was inaugurated as Barack Obama’s vice president and where Heinz’s stepfather chaired the powerful Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. “Over the next seven years, as both Joe Biden and John Kerry negotiated sensitive and high-stakes deals with foreign governments, Rosemont entities secured a series of exclusive deals often with those same foreign governments,” Schweizer wrote. For a small firm with no track record, Rosemont Seneca scored high-level meetings with officials in China over the years, with each meeting coincidentally corresponding to official meetings between Vice President Biden and Chinese leaders. Schweizer detailed the meetings Rosemont Seneca and its business partner the Thornton Group had in China:
Less than a year after opening Rosemont Seneca’s doors, Hunter Biden and Devon Archer were in China, having secured access at the highest levels. Thornton Group’s account of the meeting on their Chinese-language website was telling: Chinese executives “extended their warm welcome” to the “Thornton Group, with its US partner Rosemont Seneca chairman Hunter Biden (second son of the now Vice President Joe Biden).” Also, according to the Thornton Group, the three Americans met with the largest and most powerful government fund leaders in China — even though Rosemont was both new and small. The timing of this meeting was also curious. It occurred just hours before Hunter Biden’s father, the vice president, met with Chinese President Hu in Washington as part of the Nuclear Security Summit. There was a second known meeting with many of the same Chinese financial titans in Taiwan in May 2011. For a small firm like Rosemont Seneca with no track record, it was an impressive level of access to China’s largest financial players. And it was just two weeks after Joe Biden had opened up the US-China strategic dialogue with Chinese officials in Washington.

All of these meetings preceding Vice President Joe Biden’s important trip to Beijing in December 2013, in which Hunter Biden and his daughter Finnegan accompanied the vice president on board Air Force Two. It is unknown if Hunter Biden met with anyone in China as he traveled with his father and the rest of the official U.S. delegation in December 2013. Schweizer noted that where Hunter Biden spent most of his time during that trip “remains largely a mystery.”

biden-biden.jpg

However, it is a matter of record that just 10 days after this Beijing trip, Hunter Biden’s firm Rosemont Seneca secured a $1 billion investment from the state-owned bank of China, which was later expanded to $1.5 billion. As the managing partner of Rosemont Seneca, Hunter Biden would undoubtedly have knowledge of this deal, which was a first-of-its-kind arrangement for the recently formed Shanghai Free-Trade Zone. Indeed, Hunter Biden was placed on the Board of Directors of the new Chinese entity, Bohai Harvest RST. “Rosemont Seneca was getting something for the first time that no other Western firm had in China, a private equity cross-border investment fund formed in the Chinese government’s Shanghai Free-Trade Zone,” Schweizer wrote in Secret Empires, noting that financial giants like Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and Blackstone did not get a deal like this, but the Chinese government decided to reward a small unknown firm managed by a man with no experience in China or private equity. “The advantages that Biden and Heinz’s firm got were enormous,” Schweizer noted. “Along with Chinese government capital to invest, by operating from the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone they could take Chinese government funds and invest there, or take them out of the country and invest them in the United States or elsewhere. No one else had such an arrangement in China. Rosemont Seneca was essentially placed first in line.” Though the Times’ article notes that Vice President Biden “warned” the Chinese leaders during his Beijing trip, it fails to mention the criticisms of Biden’s kid-gloves treatment of China at a time when the communist regime’s behavior was increasingly and openly menacing to U.S. allies in the region. In an interview last year with SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight, Schweizer explained why Joe Biden’s 2013 trip to Beijing came at a crucial moment for U.S.-China and why the former vice president’s decision to go “soft on China” was so controversial. “To put this into context, in 2013, the Chinese have just exerted air rights over the South Pacific, the South China Sea,” Schweizer said. “They basically have said, ‘If you want to fly in this area, you have to get Chinese approval. We are claiming sovereignty over this territory.’ Highly controversial in Japan, in the Philippines, and in other countries. Joe Biden is supposed to be going there to confront the Chinese. Well, he gets widely criticized on that trip for going soft on China. So basically, no challenging them, and Japan and other countries are quite upset about this.” The Hunter Biden deal appears to be in keeping with a foreign influence peddling tactic China uses to get favorable treatment from American politicians. “The Chinese government has figured out that the way to get favorable treatment from policymakers in Washington, DC, is by, basically, signing sweetheart deals with the children of politicians because they think by doing so, they’ll get better policy positions from our government,” Schweizer said. “And the history indicates in the Obama administration that that’s exactly what happens.” But China is not the only foreign government to have dealings with Hunter Biden’s firm. A New York Times article three weeks ago described Hunter Biden’s lucrative dealings with a Ukrainian oligarch-owned energy company at a time when his father was mediating U.S. policy towards Ukraine. According to the Times, the natural gas firm Burisma Holdings paid Hunter Biden “as much as $50,000 per month in some months” for his work as a board member, despite the fact that he “lacked any experience in Ukraine and just months earlier had been discharged from the Navy Reserve after testing positive for cocaine.” A Ukrainian corruption probe into Burisma Holdings was scuttled in 2016, when Vice President Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees to the country if the Ukrainian government did not fire the prosecutor who launched the corruption investigation. Withholding the loans would have thrown the former Soviet republic into insolvency at a time when it was fending off attacks from Vladimir Putin’s Russia. The Times article today claims that Hunter Biden’s partner Christopher Heinz was “concerned” that Seneca Partners’ involvement in Ukraine “created the appearance of selling influence.” “Mr. Heinz argued to Mr. Archer, who like Hunter Biden had joined Burisma’s board, that the posts created the appearance of selling influence, according to a person familiar with the conversation. Mr. Archer did not heed the advice. And Mr. Heinz, who was not involved in the China or Ukraine efforts, began decoupling his business interests from those of Mr. Biden and Mr. Archer,” the Times writes. Heinz’s “concern” about “the appearance of selling influence” seems remarkable considering the firm’s decision in 2009 to its open office in Washington, DC, just two miles from the new Vice President’s office in the Obama White House. In a Sunday interview with Fox News host Steve Hilton, President Trump added his voice to the chorus of those calling for an investigation into Hunter Biden’s foreign deals. He also stated that China is hoping that Biden will win the 2020 election in order to negotiate a more favorable trade deal with him. “The reason for the China pullback & attempted renegotiation of the Trade Deal is the sincere HOPE that they will be able to ‘negotiate’ with Joe Biden or one of the very weak Democrats, and thereby continue to ripoff the United States (($500 Billion a year)) for years to come,” Trump tweeted on May 8. At a rally in Iowa in May, the former vice president and 2020 Democratic dismissed the notion that “China is going to eat out lunch.” “Come on, man,” Biden scoffed, adding that “they’re not bad people” and “they’re not competition for us.” In an interview last week on Breitbart News Tonight, Schweizer was asked if Biden could be trusted to negotiate with China in light of his family’s financial ties to the communist regime. “As far as I’m concerned, with the commercial relationships that the Biden family has with the Chinese, there is no way that that is not going have a dramatic effect on Joe Biden’s perceptions about China [and] in negotiating with the Chinese,” he said. The New York Times article, however, argues that President Trump’s call to investigate this accusation of foreign influence peddling amounts to an abuse of office — that is, Trump abusing his office, not the former vice president who went “soft on China” at the same his son was securing financial deals with the regime considered an existential threat to U.S. security. Schweizer, the president of the nonpartisan Government Accountability Institute and a senior editor-at-large for Breitbart News, wrote the bestselling 2015 exposé Clinton Cash, which is widely credited for its instrumental impact on Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign due to Schweizer’s copious documentation of the former secretary of state’s history of amassing wealth from donors seeking favorable actions from her State Department. Schweizer’s research on Hunter Biden has already triggered Democratic strategists worried that Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign could suffer the same fate as Clinton’s. The similarities between the two candidates are hard to dismiss: both are establishment favorites, both are Obama administration alums, and both are tainted by accusations that they used their authority as government officials to benefit their family to the potential detriment of U.S. foreign policy.

Peter Schweizer: Hunter Biden Was ‘Stuffing His Pockets with Foreign Money’ While Dad Was Vice President

Description: Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute and senior editor-at-large at Breitbart News, explained how Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s second son, consummated financial relationships with foreign states and oligarchs in China and Ukraine while his father “steered [foreign] policy” towards those two countries as vice president. He offered his analysis in a Saturday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Saturday with host Matt Boyle. “Why were these foreign governments and these foreign corrupt oligarchs stuffing money into Hunter Biden’s pocket?” asked Schweizer. “That’s why I have called for Hunter Biden to testify before a Senate committee.” Schweizer has repeatedly advised the Senate to call on Hunted Biden to testify about the origins and nature of his financial relationships with the government of China via the state-owned Bank of China and Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings. Schweizer said, “It’s a very simple question. There’s no evasion here. What were you being paid to do? How did these deals come about? The fact that you’re doing deals in China and Ukraine — which are precisely the countries that your father, as vice president, is point person on — is a very alarming thing that needs to be looked into.”

The lack of interest in investigating possible corruption via Joe Biden’s monetization of political influence reflects political and partisan biases on the part of news media and government, estimated Schweizer. “[There is] very little interest in actual deals that were consummated by the Biden family while he was vice president,” noted Schweizer. “They have deals. They got money. They got paid. Joe Biden was steering policy. It is flabbergasting to me, the inconsistency that people want to have on this.” As of this article’s publication, CNN.com has made no mention of Bohai Harvest RST, an equity firm founded by Hunter Biden and Christopher Heinz, the stepson of former Secretary of State John Kerry. The firm secured $1.5 billion in state funding from China. “Why was Hunter Biden stuffing his pockets with foreign money?” asked Schweizer. “From every place from Ukraine to China, we’ve got money coming from Kazakh oligarchs, what was he being paid for? I think we can all agree, people are not stuffing money into his pocket out of the kindness of their hearts. They are expecting, wanting, and, I think, getting something in return.”

Description: Best-selling author Peter Schweizer explains the foreign influence peddling scandal engulfing Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign in a new video series produced by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI). Schweizer, who is the president of GAI, explains in the video the key findings from his 2018 bestselling book Secret Empires regarding the financial deals Hunter Biden’s private equity firm secured in Ukraine and China while his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, was negotiating U.S. foreign policy with those countries. “New documents shed light on just how much money [foreign] oligarchs were sending to the Biden family while he was vice president,” Schweizer states in the video. “We have a glimpse of this not because the Biden family has disclosed it, but because documents that came out in a court case offer access to financial records involving Hunter Biden.” “By looking at just this one account, we know what was flowing into the account and what was flowing out while Joe Biden was vice president,” he continued. “Flowing in over an eighteen month period was $3.1 million from the Ukrainians. There was $142,000 that showed up from a Kazakh oligarch, and then there was a mysterious $1.2 million from a limited liability company that nobody seems to know where it exists [and] that funneled the money to a small Swiss bank that has been implicated in international money laundering,” Schweizer said. “Flowing out of the account is hundreds of thousands of dollars into the personal banking accounts of Hunter Biden himself. $142,000 to a luxury auto dealership. Another $182,000 to a luxury watch company. This is all just from one account,” he stated.

The video is the first episode of a new series called The Drill Down with Peter Schweizer, which premiered Wednesday on RealClearInvestigations and can be viewed at http://www.DrillDownTV.com.

Biden Praises 10-Year-Old Girl as ‘Good Looking’ and Holds Her Shoulders

Description: Former Vice President Joe Biden cozied up to a 10-year-old girl on Tuesday, despite his promise to control his personal interactions with women and children. “I’ll bet you’re as bright as you are good-looking,” Biden said to a girl who asked him a question at an American Federation of Teachers town hall in Houston, Texas. He exclaimed when the girl told him that she wanted to be a journalist, and led her over to meet the reporters in the room. As he introduced the child to the press, he leaned over and spoke in her ear, before finishing his speech.

“By the way, as these guys will tell you, I’m not always their favorite subject, but the truth of the matter is, the reason why we are who we are is called a free press,” he said, as the audience applauded. Biden then urged someone in the room to take the girl to “meet the press” so she could meet some role models. Some reporters found the exchange rather odd.
In a somewhat odd moment at tonight's AFT town hall, Biden tells a 10-year-old girl, “I’ll bet you’re as bright as you are good-looking." He takes her over to the assembled reporters, then stands behind her and puts his hands on her shoulders while he's talking.

The former vice president earned criticism prior to launching his campaign about his habit of touching women and children in public without their consent. In April, Biden explained in a video released by the campaign that he would be much more mindful of his behavior in the future. “The boundaries of protecting personal space have been reset. I get it. I get it. I hear what they’re saying and I understand it,” he said. “I’ll be much more mindful. That’s my responsibility and I’ll meet it.”

Hunter Biden Helped Set Up Chinese Tycoon Meeting with His Dad During China Visit

Description: Former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, did conduct business during his infamous 2013 trip with his father to China, despite previous denials, according to the New Yorker in a story published on Monday. In previous stories about his connections with a China investment fund, Hunter Biden’s attorney insisted that Hunter did not conduct business during his trip. The New Yorker reveals that Biden not only met with his business partner, Jonathan Li, during the 2013 trip, but arranged for Li to shake hands with Biden in the hotel. “How do I go to Beijing, halfway around the world, and not see them for a cup of coffee?” Hunter Biden said, defending his meeting. Hunter Biden’s attorney told ABC News that he “conducted no business during the visit” and told the New York Times that “he did not conduct any business related to the China investment fund on that trip.” Hunter Biden continues as a minority stakeholder in the Chinese investment company at approximately $430,000, according to ABC News. Author Peter Schweizer first reported the details of Hunter’s questionable dealings with China in his bestselling book, Secret Empires.

Senate Finance Committee Probes Biden-Linked, Chinese Military-Boosting Tech Sale

Description: The Senate Finance Committee is probing the Obama administration’s 2015 decision to approve the sale of a U.S. company with insight into “military applications” to the Chinese government and an investment firm run by former Vice President Joe Biden’s youngest son, Hunter Biden. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the committee’s chairman, sent a letter to the Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin on Thursday requesting documents relating to the sale of Henniges, a Michigan-based automotive company, to Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) and Bohai Harvest RST (BHR). The latter was formed in 2013 by a merger between a subsidiary of the Bank of China and Rosemont Seneca, a firm started by Hunter Biden and Chris Heinz, the stepson of former Secretary of State John Kerry. Since AVIC was a subsidiary of the Chinese government and Henniges, the producer of “dual-use” anti-vibration technology with military application, the deal required approval from the Obama administration’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). The panel — made up of representatives from 16 different federal bodies, including the departments of State, Treasury, and Defense — is required to review any transaction that could lead to a foreign person gaining control of an American business. In question is whether CIFUS was influenced by Obama administration officials, most notedly Joe Biden and John Kerry, who had an interest in seeing the deal move forward. “The direct involvement of Mr. Hunter Biden and Mr. Heinz in the acquisition of Henniges by the Chinese government creates a potential conflict of interest,” Grassley wrote. The senator noted in his letter that AVIC’s bid for Henniges should have immediately set off alarm bells in the Obama White House. In 2007, AVIC “reportedly involved in stealing sensitive data regarding the Joint Strike Fighter program,” which it later “reportedly incorporated … into China’s J-20 and J‑31 aircraft.” Even more troubling, however, is that bid was facilitated at the same time China was staking out a more adversarial role in global affairs. At the time, Beijing was suspected of undermining U.S. cybersecurity by underwriting hackers stealing governmental data. There was also simmering tension over disputes in the South China Sea. Despite the threat to national security, the $600 million deal was approved by CIFUS, with AVIC purchasing 51 percent of the company and BHR taking ownership of the other 49 percent. Upon purchase, an industry newsletter stated the deal was the “biggest Chinese investment into US automotive manufacturing assets to date.” In his letter to Mnuchin, Grassley compared the deal to the Uranium One scandal, which arose when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton approved the sale of a Canadian mining company to Rosatom, the state-owned Russian nuclear energy conglomerate. It later emerged that both investors in the company and Russian energy officials had donated heavily to the Clinton Foundation. “As with the Uranium One transaction, there is cause for concern that potential conflicts of interest could have influenced CFIUS’ approval of the Henniges transaction,” Grassley wrote. “Accordingly, Congress and the public must fully understand the decision-making process that led to the Henniges approval and the extent to which CFIUS fully considered the transaction’s national security risks.” This is not the first time that Hunter Biden’s ties to China have caused grief for his father’s political career. As Peter Schweizer, a senior contributor at Breitbart News, revealed in his bestselling book Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends, Hunter Biden signed the $1.5 billion deal creating BHR in 2013 only ten days after visiting China aboard Air Force Two with his father.

Peter Schweizer: Hunter Biden Helped China Buy Our ‘National Security’ Assets

Description: Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s second son, helped facilitate China’s acquisition of Henniges Automotive explained Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute and senior contributor at Breitbart News, in a Friday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with host Rebecca Mansour and special guest host Rick Manning. He called the Senate Finance Committee’s decision to probe the Obama administration’s 2015 approval of the sale of Henniges Automotive as a “wonderful development.” Schweizer examined China’s acquisition of Henniges Automotive — a formerly America-based company developing “dual-use” technologies with military applications — by Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), a Chinese state-run military contractor. AVIC acquired Henniges in 2015 with a 51 percent stake purchase. The remaining 49 percent was purchased by Bohai Harvest RST (BHR), a private equity firm founded by Hunter Biden and funded with $1.5 billion from the Chinese government via the Bank of China.

“The Chinese government works to gain political allies in the United States by striking commercial deals with the family members of powerful politicians,” explained Schweizer, “and exhibit A in that — it’s not even close when you look at the amount of money and the volume of deals that took place — is with Hunter Biden, with Joe Biden’s son, while he was vice president.” Schweizer added, “Clearly this was a Chinese effort to curry favor with the Bidens by helping make Joe Biden’s son rich.” “[BHR] was buying companies that were involved in America’s high-tech sector, and companies that had dual-use technologies [with both] civilian applications and military applications,” Schweizer noted. “Henniges produces precision-tuned anti-vibration technologies.” The Chinese government’s acquisition of Henniges “required the approval of the Obama administration” and “Hunter Biden’s help,” added Schweizer, “and lo and behold, the Obama administration gave them exactly that approval.” Schweizer addressed the Obama administration’s approval of China’s acquisition of Henniges Automotive via the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), which he described as an opaque governmental body broadly exempted from public transparency measures. “CFIUS … is a very secretive body,” said Schweizer.”They don’t release any documents, generally. You can’t even obtain [documents pertaining to] everything they do through the Freedom of Information Act, and the rationale is, ‘Well, we’re talking about company secrets and technologies, so we do’t want to give away any of those trade secrets.’ That may apply in some cases, but generally, I think that’s just a ridiculous excuse that allows them to not be accountable for the decisions that they make. The problem is this deal is that there’s no question that this purchase of Henniges had military application.” Schweizer summarized, “The Obama administration approved a deal where the son of the then-sitting vice president, in partnership with a Chinese government investment firm and a Chinese military contractor, purchased an American technology machine tool parts company that had military application.” He added, “What’s truly shocking about the Hunter Biden deal with the Chinese is not just that the Chinese were helping the son of the sitting vice president get rich, it’s the fact that the vice president’s son was involved in this Henniges deal which ended up helping the Chinese military. He was involved in another deal called CGN — Chinese General Nuclear — which is a Chinese nuclear company that was implicated in spying — stealing nuclear secrets from the United States — by the FBI. Executives from that company have been arrested. These are firms that Hunter Biden’s investment firm is involved in, and Hunter Biden sits on the board of directors of this Chinese government-funded investment company. It’s truly shocking. It’s not just your run-of-the-mill cronyism and a guy getting rich because of who his dad is. These are very serious national security issues and the Bidens just, frankly looked the other way and were glad to take the money.” “One of the basic questions we need [answered] is, was there pressure brought to bear?” asked Schweizer of CFIUS’s 2015 approval of China’s acquisition of Henniges Automotive. “Were there people connected to Biden that were involved in making that decision?'” “All we know is that there apparently were no objections [at CFIUS],” said Schweizer. “If the deal would have been stopped temporarily because of a concern and had gone to the president, we would actually have public knowledge of that. That has happened a few times in the past, and I think since CFIUS was opened in 1975, I think I am correct in saying there has not been a single case of a president in effect saying, ‘Well, you object, but we’re going through with it,’ so usually if a government agency objects on some grounds, a deal is dead. There is no evidence that there were any objections in this case because there was no reporting as such.” Schweizer went on, “It appears as if all the government agencies said, ‘We have no problem with this.’ What I think Senator Grassley wants to know is, was this just a case of nobody paying attention? In other words, people were either incompetent or just not engaged? Or was there something more nefarious? Was there public or political pressure brought to bear? Again, this is the son of the vice president. Vice President Biden was the point man on U.S. policy towards China, and his son was involved with this deal, so was there pressure brought to bear? Did the vice president [or] did people at White House reach out to people in CFIUS? That’s what I think Senator Grassley wants to know. Government agencies are all supposed to do internal reviews and issue reports [asking], ‘What are the national security implications if this deal goes through? What are the possible negative repercussions for the United States? Does that warrant stopping this deal?'” Mansour recalled, “Hunter Biden had zero background in private equity [and] zero background in China. There was absolutely no reason to give this little boutique firm that nobody had ever heard of this kind of lucrative deal if it weren’t for the fact that his last name is Biden.” “Hunter Biden and the Biden family have lied about this deal from the beginning. When Secret Empires came out last year, it was a number one New York Times bestseller. They poo-pooed it and said, ‘No, it’s not true.’ We finally got some of the mainstream media to ask them questions about this, and ABC news did exactly that, and the Bidens did was lie about it. They said it wasn’t really that big of a deal. … They continue to lie and deceive about the nature of this relationship, and frankly, if you have to lie about it that much, it indicates to me that you’re trying to cover things up, that you’re embarrassed about it, [and] you know that this is a problem.” Mansour highlighted China’s use of private equity firms for the purpose of foreign acquisitions, reading from a 2017 U.S. Chamber of Commerce report titled, “Made in China 2025: Global Ambitions Built on Local Protections”:
In Several MIC 2025 sectors, the technological gap between domestic and foreign competitors is significant, and closing that gap would require extended timelines and high levels of financial commitment that could stress budgets. To accelerate the learning process, the state appears to be supporting acquisition strategies of Chinese state-owned and state-supported companies tied to MIC 2025 priority sectors. ... China is also injecting state funds into private equity to fund foreign acquisitions. … Elements of China’s outbound investment strategy that are tied to industrial policy are contributing to growing global concern about Chinese acquisitions of foreign technology.

“One of the reasons why our manufacturing sector has been cannibalized is because of what our financial sector has been doing,” added Mansour. She shared the following excerpt from an article entitled, “Why Private Equity Should Not Exist”: “When I reported on the problem of financialization destroying our national security capacity, one of the manufacturers I talked to told me about how the ‘LBO boys’ – or Leveraged Buy Out Boys – took apart factories in the midwest and shipped them to China.” China politically sanitizes its foreign acquisitions by involving family members of American politicians in its deals, explained Schweizer. “If you’re somebody working in the bowels of the Chinese government [and] you want to buy high-technology military-sensitive companies in the United States, one of the first things you’re going to do is, you’re going to wrap those deals in a package that includes the family members of American politicians, and the reason for that is, it puts a friendly gloss on it,” he remarked. “So when this deal comes up before CIFIUS review in Washington, D.C, does anybody doubt that it is at least going to be whispered that the son of the vice president is involved in some of these companies? Does anybody doubt that that is put there to make it more friendly and more benign? Does anybody doubt that you’re going to involve the family members of politicians because you want them to buy in and to gain from this strategy that you’re carrying out? That’s precisely the reason you get it.” Schweizer continued, “Hunter Biden got this deal with the Chinese government to set up this investment fund. They didn’t give it to Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan or anyone else that had far more experience. it’s because they didn’t need experience. What they needed was political cover, and Hunter Biden was apparently prepared to give them that cover. … This is a bipartisan problem, and you’re going to have political figures and their family members who are going to be all too glad to essentially sell out the national security interests to the United States if they can make a killing with an investment.” “There are very powerful commercial interests in Washington, D.C. that want things kind of moving along the way that they always have, and they don’t want the boat rocked, because there’s a lot of money to be made in these deals, and there’s certainly going to be pressure from those individuals for this information not to be turned over to Senator Grassley and his committee,” he warned. Schweizer concluded, “A guy like Joe Biden who’s been in public life for more than 30 years in government office … has to disclose a $500 campaign contribution. He has to disclose a $200 campaign contribution. He has to disclose that he owns like a $1000 in GE stock, and we have these rules because we need to know what entanglements or what relationships or connections there are between a politician like Joe Biden and his donors, so he needs to disclose that. And isn’t this good that we have this transparency? But a billion-dollar-plus deal that his adult son does with a foreign government — the Chinese government, that is our chief rival — there’s no disclosure requirement for that. None. Zip. Nada. That shows you how crazy the situation has become.”

Description: Creepy, crazy Uncle Joe Biden is facing a serious backlash for -- you guessed it -- being creepy. He hasn't yet formally entered the race, but already, "Creepy Uncle Joe" is facing two separate allegations of inappropriate touching and a lot more.

biden-cartoon.jpg

Just a short time ago, a Connecticut woman named Amy Lappos told "The Hartford Courant", "He put his hand around my neck, he pulled me in to rub noses with me. When he was pulling me in, I thought he was going to kiss me on the mouth." Meanwhile, the first accusation came from former Democratic lawmaker Lucy Flores of Nevada, who encountered the vice president backstage at a political event in 2014. She's claiming Crazy Uncle Joe got close to her from behind, sniffing and smelling her hair and planted an unsolicited case on the back of her head, saying, "My brain couldn't process what was happening, I was embarrassed, I was shocked, I was confused." Smelling someone's hair from behind, rubbing noses, kissing a stranger, some on the lips -- who does that? Apparently, Joe Biden. And he does that a lot. Now, "Creepy Uncle Joe" is a nickname that he's earned through the years. Cringe-inducing, very awkward touching, grabbing, kissing, stroking, smelling, and rubbing. As one of his accusers told Politico, "It's so easy to Google 'Creepy Biden.'" Everyone is entitled to due process and the perception of innocence. But the problem here for Joe Biden is there are dozens and dozens of pictures and videos of showing these kind of encounters. Biden offered a half-hearted apology, saying he doesn't believe he ever acted inappropriately. So, that brings us to a very important question: Will the Democratic Party hold Biden to the same "Believe all women-zero-tolerance" standard that they have utilized so vigorously against Republicans? And by the way, where are all the Judge Kavanaugh "I believers"? So far, the radical socialist 2020 Democrats who don't want Biden to win are coming out against the former VP. But obviously, that's for political expediency. But Creepy Uncle Joe's super fans in the mainstream media, they are singing a much different tune. They love them. It's no surprise they sucking up to Creepy Crazy Uncle Joe. That's the same media mob who tried to ruin Judge Kavanaugh's life over wild 30-year-old uncorroborated allegations, and some cryptic high school yearbook post. Don't expect the media to ever properly vet Joe Biden. They didn't do it to 2008, to the "Chosen One" -- the one the gave them "thrills up their leg" -- Barack Obama. And they're not going to do it any of the 2020 candidates on the extreme Democratic socialist side.

Biden accused by 2 more women of inappropriate touching

Description: Two more women have accused former Vice President Joe Biden of touching them inappropriately at events, bringing the total number of women who have complained publicly about the prospective 2020 Democratic candidate to four. The latest accusations were reported by The New York Times. One of the claims dated from 2012, while the other encounter was said to have taken place a few years later. In the 2012 incident, writer D.J. Hill said Biden put his hand on her shoulder, then dropped it down her back in a way that made her "very uncomfortable" while Hill and her husband posed for pictures with him at a fundraiser in Minneapolis. Hill said her husband noticed the movement and made a joke about it. "Only he knows his intent,” Hill told the Times, before adding, "If something makes you feel uncomfortable, you have to feel able to say it." In the second incident, former college student Caitlyn Caruso told the paper that Biden "rested his hand on her thigh — even as she squirmed in her seat to show her discomfort — and hugged her 'just a little bit too long' at an event on sexual assault at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas." Caruso, now 22, told the paper that she was 19 at the time and had just recounted her own story of sexual assault. "It doesn’t even really cross your mind that such a person would dare perpetuate harm like that,” Caruso told the Times. "These are supposed to be people you can trust." On Monday, Amy Lappos, a former aide to Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., told the Hartford Courant that Biden touched her face with both hands and rubbed noses in 2009. Late last week, former Nevada politician Lucy Flores wrote that Biden had grabbed her shoulders, smelled her hair and kissed her on the back of her head at a campaign event in 2014. Biden has denied acting inappropriately and a spokesman for the former vice president accused "right wing trolls and others" of conflating images of Biden embracing acquaintances, colleagues and friends in his official capacity during swearing-in ceremonies with uninvited touching in a statement published the same day as Lappos' accusations. Biden's team had no immediate comment on the latest allegations.

Sanders team denies pushing Biden accuser story, as Biden backer says former VP is 'ready to kill Bernie'

Description: Members of Joe Biden's inner circle are becoming increasingly convinced the Bernie Sanders' campaign is behind at least one of the explosive accusations of physical misconduct recently leveled against the former vice president -- and, in the words of one prominent backer, Biden is now "ready to kill Bernie."

biden-deal.jpg

In an article on Friday, former Nevada lieutenant governor candidate Lucy Flores accused Biden of inappropriate sexual conduct during a 2014 campaign event, saying Biden "plant[ed] a big slow kiss on the back of my head." Flores endorsed Sanders in a 2016 Facebook post, served on the board of the Sanders-aligned Our Revolution group, and campaigned publicly on his behalf. She has also appeared at a rally for Democratic presidential contender Beto O'Rourke. Biden has strongly denied acting inappropriately around women. And in a dramatic, tension-raising moment, a top Democratic source openly told The Daily Beast on Tuesday that Biden's team thinks the story, which was followed by another similar account from a Connecticut woman, was "coming out of Bernie world.” But Sanders campaign manager Faiz Shakir strongly denied any suggestion that the senator’s team or its allies were behind the Flores story, and directed Fox News to an earlier statement on the matter. “Neither the Bernie Sanders campaign, nor anyone involved in it, planted, planned, persuaded, cajoled or otherwise urged Lucy Flores or anyone else to tell their story. Full stop, period, end of sentence. I don’t want to hear it. We didn’t play a role,” Shakir said. “But this is why my blood boils,” he added. “We have heard through innuendo and rumors that somehow this campaign was involved in Lucy Flores telling her story, and it is deeply disrespectful and shameful that any time a woman comes forward to tell her story there has to be some kind of intimation or suggestion that that person is doing so out of some political agenda and or that the person may be lying." Shakir continued: "We went through the Donald Trump campaign in which a number of women came forward to tell their stories and they were dismissed and criticized and ripped by the president of the United States on the highest stage of the land. We saw it with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, that she must be a Dianne Feinstein plant. It is dismissive and disrespectful that whenever a woman comes forward the first suggestion is that there has to be a political agenda driving them.” In his own fiery statement on Monday, a Biden spokesman pushed back on the accusations made against the vice president, saying many photos of Biden have been misinterpreted -- even according to some of the women who appear in them -- while others were blatant "smears and forgeries." But the spokesman, Bill Russo, specifically criticizied "right-wing trolls," and left no hint he was referring to Sanders. In response, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signaled that Biden's issues weren't disqualifing -- even as she offered some unsolicited advice for how he can avoid ending up in any other "inappropriate" situations. "Just pretend you have a cold," Pelosi said during a Politico event on Tuesday morning. "I’m a member of the straight-arm club. … I just pretend that you have a cold and I have a cold. Join the straight-arm club with me." The episode wasn't the first time Sanders' team has publicly quarreled with other Democrats. Earlier this year, a top Sanders adviser called Hillary Clinton's team members among the "biggest a--holes in American politics" and said neither Clinton nor her staff were "nice people."

Biden mistakenly claims Margaret Thatcher, who died in 2013, is worried about Trump

Description: Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden reportedly had to correct himself over the weekend after telling donors Margaret Thatcher is concerned about the United States under President Trump. Thatcher, the former prime minister of Britain, died in 2013 – nearly two years before Trump launched his first campaign for president. According to Bloomberg News, Biden eventually corrected himself, explaining to the donors he meant to say British Prime Minister Theresa May instead of Thatcher, blaming the mix-up on a “Freudian slip.” Biden’s confusing comments came Saturday during a closed-door fundraiser in Columbia, South Carolina. He listed Thatcher as one of 14 heads of state who he claimed have voiced concerns to him about Trump, the outlet reported. May has been prime minister since 2016. Thatcher resigned as prime minister in 1990. During his fundraiser swing in South Carolina, Biden also took a page out of Trump’s playbook on Saturday when asked if he had a nickname for the president. Biden reportedly said he didn’t want to get down in the mud with Trump, but if he had to choose a moniker for the current White House occupant it would be a “clown.” “There’s so many nicknames I’m inclined to give this guy,” Biden said, according to Politico. “You can just start with clown.”

Biden says he was VP at time of Parkland shooting in latest campaign gaffe

Description: Joe Biden slipped up once again on the campaign trail Saturday, saying he was vice president at the time of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., adding to the number of mishaps that have drawn mockery from his opponents. The 76-year-old Biden, who left the vice presidency in 2017, was talking about gun violence with reporters in Iowa when he said that “those kids in Parkland came up to see me when I was vice president" after the shooting that left 14 students and three educators dead. A campaign official told Bloomberg that Biden was thinking of the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. that left 20 young children and six staff members dead. The gaffe is the latest in a string of blunders that has dogged the 2020 Democratic frontrunner. On Thursday, the former vice president told a crowd that "poor kids were just as bright and talented as white kids." After a very brief pause, Biden quickly continued speaking, adding: “Wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids.” Earlier this week, Biden mistakenly said the recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio took place in Houston and Michigan. President Trump has tried to seize on Biden's well-publicized gaffes to make the case that he isn't fit to lead the country. On Friday, the president said Biden "is not playing with a full deck" in response to his "poor kids" comments. Trump also piled on Saturday, asking on Twitter if Biden was fit to be president. "Joe Biden just said, 'We believe in facts, not truth.' Does anybody really believe he is mentally fit to be president? We are 'playing' in a very big and complicated world. Joe doesn’t have a clue!" The tweet appears to refer to Biden's Thursday speech at the Iowa State Fair when he said: “We choose science over fiction. We choose truth over facts.” Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe -- a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee -- said Friday on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" that Biden's occasional mishaps were preferable to the "10,000 lies" he claimed President Trump has told since taking office.

Biden World Mobilizes Against Inappropriate Touching Allegations

Description: The former VP’s advisers think the chatter is being stoked by potential opponents. Bernie Sanders’ campaign director firmly denies it.

Joe Biden’s nascent presidential campaign and allied advisers are growing more convinced that stories of the former vice president inappropriately touching women are being pushed by opposing Democratic campaigns—and it’s caused them to pivot into campaign mode earlier than planned. That assessment has created a sense of resentment and resolve inside the Biden camp, where there appears to be little appetite to reconsider going forward on a presidential bid. And it portends a potentially sharp-elbowed rollout for Biden should he firmly decide to enter the race. One top Democratic source said that the suspicion within the Biden universe was that stories of women being made physically uncomfortable by the former VP were “all coming out of Bernie world.” The insinuation was that Lucy Flores, a former Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor of Nevada in 2014, came forward at the behest of Senator Sanders to allege that Biden had given her an unwanted kiss. Flores supported Sanders during the 2016 election and was on the board of his group Our Revolution. She also appeared at a rally for former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) and has consistently maintained that she wrote her first-person essay detailing her encounter with Biden because she felt that coverage of the former VP was failing to note images and instances similar to hers. Flores has not endorsed anyone in the race as of yet. Sanders campaign manager Faiz Shakir strongly denied any suggestion that the senator’s team or its allies were behind the Flores story, saying accusations of such made his “blood boil.” “Neither the Bernie Sanders campaign nor anyone involved in it, planted, planned, persuaded, cajoled or otherwise urged Lucy Flores or anyone else to tell their story. Full stop, period, end of sentence. I don’t want to hear it. We didn’t play a role,” Shakir told The Daily Beast. “But this is why my blood boils,” he added. “We have heard through innuendo and rumors that somehow this campaign was involved in Lucy Flores telling her story and it is deeply disrespectful and shameful that any time a woman comes forward to tell her story there has to be some kind of intimation or suggestion that that person is doing so out of some political agenda and or that the person may be lying… It is shameful. We went through the Donald Trump campaign in which a number of women came forward to tell their stories and they were dismissed and criticized and ripped by the president of the United States on the highest stage of the land. We saw it with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, that she must be a Dianne Feinstein plant. It is dismissive and disrespectful that whenever a woman comes forward the first suggestion is that there has to be a political agenda driving them.” Among Biden advisers, there has been deep concern about how to handle and move beyond Flores’ story. Democratic senators close to the former VP expressed concern over the weekend that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to effectively message that the incidents showed Biden as affectionate and caring as opposed to exploiting power dynamics and making unwanted physical contact. Those fears were compounded on Monday when Amy Lappos, a Connecticut woman, came forward with a similar allegation to Flores’, this time involving Biden attending a 2009 fundraiser. They’ve grown more complicated as Biden’s potential competitors in the primary have said they believe Flores while urging Biden to address the matter. It’s also unlikely end with Flores and Lappos as other news outlets are rumored to be looking into similar accounts. One Democratic operative in touch with Biden’s team said that aides “were ready for this,” since photos and videos of Biden walking up to, if not skirting, these lines have been publicized in the past. “But living it is a lot different than thinking it will come out,” the operative added. “Seeing the stories live is different than hearing, ‘Oh yeah, everyone has a Biden story.’” Faced with these stories, Biden’s team has pivoted—operating much more as an actual campaign than a campaign in waiting, both practically and tonally. An email was circulated among the Biden faithful on Monday urging them to push back on any insinuation this will impact his decision making, after it took over 24 hours for the vice president to make an initial statement following the Friday allegation. Some of the push-back has happened organically, however. Over his decades in public office, Biden employed numerous top female aides, many of whom have gone on to take top roles in women’s advocacy organizations and political operations. Those alumni quickly began putting out statements and testimonials vouching for Biden’s integrity and trumpeting the work he has done on women’s issues, most notably the passage of the Violence Against Women Act. “I think he has to tell his story and I mean his story about how he is going to rebuild the middle class and all the things people are looking for in a president,” former Delaware Gov. Jack Markell told The Daily Beast. “People who have known him for a long time know he is a very friendly, compassionate guy who is really engaging and they know who he is. It is not for any of us to disregard how these women have felt but I can tell you, everybody who knows him knows there is nothing intentional or nefarious… I think he needs to be himself and he needs to talk about the issues people care about. And I think there are enough women in particular who will vouch for him.” Stephanie Carter, one of the subjects of the infamous images featuring Biden, wrote a Medium post explaining that nothing inappropriate happened on the day of her husband’s swearing-in. Other staffers have put out statements and appeared on cable news to say that they had never seen or experienced any untoward behavior from the former vice president throughout years of working with him. “I think it’s a story of our time. I think that the vice president has a way that he expresses appreciation and emotion that we have all been aware of for decades,” Amanda Loveday, the former executive director of the South Carolina Democratic Party, who has spent a lot of time with Biden, told The Daily Beast. “In my experience and in a lot of other women’s experience with the vice president, everything he’s ever done has been from a very genuine and honest place, with zero intent for malicious activity.” Still, Trump allies were quick to pounce on the growing narrative. Great America PAC released a trolly web video titled “Creepy Joe” featuring an interview with Flores, set to haunting music and overlaid footage of children seemingly watching Biden on TV greeting women and girls. The irony-free ad, given the number of women who have accused Trump of sexual harassment as well as the president’s history of lewd comments, ends with the words “our children are watching... what example are we setting for them?”
